In Exodus 20, when the intense presence of God came, and the people saw it, they trembled and backed away, and stood a far off where they were more comfortable. They told Moses that they wanted him to talk to God, and then Moses could tell them what God said. Encountering God’s presence can be uncomfortable. When He shows up things move and shake. But, are we people who stand a far off, or draw near to Him? Are we hungry for Him, or hungry for lunch? The Bible says, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled.” God’s desire has always been from the beginning to dwell with us. His Presence is everything.
There is no “good person,” “church-going” category of people in the end. There are only two categories – in Love with Jesus or Not! When a person is pregnant in the natural, everything is changed to accommodate for the one they are pregnant with. They are careful, mindful and protective of what is more valuable on the inside of them than their own preferences and desires – the things they eat, drink and participate in. Mary said, “Let it be to me according to your word.” And it cost her. Carrying the presence of God, Him living in us – should affect and change us. It should and will cost us – how we live our lives, our reputation, our friends and family. Are you willing to let God live on the inside of you? At any cost?
Preparing a “Dwelling Place” is about preparing our lives to be a dwelling place – for God to be with you and in you. Pastor Chad Everett teaches from Genesis chapters 1 – 3 that God has always had ONE desire from the very beginning and it is to dwell with us, and that we were formed and created with a “dominion mindset,” as demonstrated in these chapters. Addressing some truths about some religious beliefs, he instructs those who are listening – to not just listen, but to hear and apply what you hear.
God has always desired to have a relationship with you. He wants to co-create with you, out of a heart relationship with Him. God’s design for creation was to adopt His heart out of love and relationship, so that we begin to make decisions based on that heart relationship with Him, and we begin to do things like Him so that He is represented in the earth through that expression. He wants you to love Him so much that when you do things on the earth, it’s out of the context of relationship with Him.
King David’s heart was to build a temple for God to come and dwell, at the cost of his own interests and comfort. He had a passion for the presence of God. A heart for the New Testament, but living in the Old Testament. When we pursue Him, it’s not for what He can do for us, it’s simply pursuing who He is. We aren’t asking for just a visitation, but for Him to come and find a place He can dwell. We are making that the most important thing – more important than our own interests and comfort. We welcome Him above any of our own agendas. His Presence Is Everything!
