How to Use This Study
This 5-day guide is designed to help you dig deeper – personally, with your family, or with your Roads Group. Each day includes a focus point from the sermon, a big idea, key Scriptures (please open your Bible to read them in full), a quote from Pastor Chad, discussion questions for different groups, and a step of application.
Have your Bible ready! Dig into the Word, and let your beliefs be shaped by Scripture, not by opinions or feelings.
Sermon Overview
In this message, Pastor Chad Everett continued the Soil and Seed – Keys to the Kingdom series with the question: Which seed are we growing?
From the very beginning, God created seeds to reproduce after their kind. Every acorn contains an oak tree within it, just as every spiritual seed carries the potential of what God designed it to become. In Genesis 1, God made mankind in His image and likeness, giving us everything we need to reflect Him. But in Genesis 3, the serpent introduced another seed—one built on deception and feelings rather than God’s truth.
Pastor Chad showed that there are only two kinds of seed:
- The seed of Satan, driven by senses and lies.
- The seed of the woman, fulfilled in Christ, rooted in faith and truth.
There is no neutral seed. Each day we choose which one we are cultivating. The good news is that Jesus, the promised Seed, came to crush the serpent’s head and plant new life within us. This study will help us open our Bibles, strengthen our faith, and grow the seed of Christ in our lives, our families, and our church.
Why This Study?
Digging deeper into this message helps us recognize the daily choice we face: which seed are we growing? God has already placed His seed within us, but the enemy continually tries to plant lies that shift us toward living by feelings instead of faith. By opening our Bibles and studying this truth, we learn how to identify the voices we’re listening to, strengthen our identity in Christ, and grow the kind of fruit that brings life. The benefit of this study is not just more knowledge—it is the transformation that comes when our beliefs are shaped by God’s Word, leading to greater confidence, spiritual maturity, and victory over the enemy’s strategies.
Day 1 – The Seed is in Itself
Big Idea: Everything God has for us is already in the seed He has given.
Scripture: Genesis 1:11–12; 2 Peter 1:3
Quote from Pastor Chad:
“Sometimes we pray for oak trees and God gives us acorns. He asks, ‘Will you steward this faithfully?’”
Discussion Questions:
- New Christians: What does Genesis 1:11–12 reveal about how God designed seeds to work?
- Mature Christians: How does 2 Peter 1:3 confirm that God has already placed everything you need for life and godliness inside of you?
- Jr. & Sr. High Students: What’s one “acorn” God may be asking you to take care of right now? How could that grow in your life?
- Families with Young Children: Read Genesis 1:11–12 together. Ask your kids: What grows when we plant an apple seed? What does that teach us about God’s design?
- Families with Teenagers: Share an example of a small step of obedience that can grow into something much bigger. How can you encourage each other to be faithful?
Application Step (All): Identify one “seed” in your life (a small beginning, opportunity, or truth from God’s Word). Write it down and pray daily this week to steward it faithfully.
Day 2 – Made in His Image
Big Idea: We were created in the image and likeness of God, equipped with everything we need to reflect Him.
Scripture: Genesis 1:26–27; Ephesians 4:24
Quote from Pastor Chad:
“When God made Adam and Eve, He gave them everything they needed to be like Him. It was already inside of them.”
Discussion Questions:
- New Christians: According to Genesis 1:26–27, how did God create mankind? What does that say about you?
- Mature Christians: What does it mean to put on the “new self” in Ephesians 4:24?
- Jr. & Sr. High Students: How does knowing you are made in God’s image affect how you see yourself?
- Families with Young Children: Read Genesis 1:27. Ask: Who made you? What does it mean that you look like God?
- Families with Teenagers: How does being made in God’s image shape your view of identity compared to what the world says?
Application Step (All): Look in a mirror this week and declare: “I am made in the image of God. His likeness is in me.”
Day 3 – Another Seed Introduced
Big Idea: The enemy tries to plant lies that cause us to trust our feelings instead of God’s Word.
Scripture: Genesis 3:1–7; John 8:44
Quote from Pastor Chad:
“The enemy’s strategy hasn’t changed. He wants our truth and reality to be driven by feelings and senses instead of the Word of God.”
Discussion Questions:
- New Christians: What lie did the serpent tell Eve in Genesis 3:4–5? How was it different from what God had said?
- Mature Christians: How does John 8:44 describe the devil’s nature? How does that help us stay alert today?
- Jr. & Sr. High Students: What’s one situation where you’re tempted to trust your feelings over God’s Word?
- Families with Young Children: Read Genesis 3:6. Ask: What did Eve look at? Why is it important to look at what God says?
- Families with Teenagers: Talk about a cultural message you hear often. How does it compare to God’s Word?
Application Step (All): Each time you notice a thought or feeling that contradicts Scripture, write it down and replace it with what God’s Word actually says.
Day 4 – The Woman’s Seed
Big Idea: Jesus is the promised Seed who came to crush the serpent’s head and give us new birth in the Spirit.
Scripture: Genesis 3:15; Luke 1:31–35; John 3:3–6
Quote from Pastor Chad:
“There are only two seeds—Satan’s and the woman’s. Neutral ground doesn’t exist. Jesus is the Seed who came to bring us new life.”
Discussion Questions:
- New Christians: What promise does God give in Genesis 3:15? How is it fulfilled in Luke 1?
- Mature Christians: How does John 3:3–6 show what it means to be born again?
- Jr. & Sr. High Students: What does being “born again” mean to you personally?
- Families with Young Children: Read John 3:3. Ask: Why do we need Jesus to give us new life?
- Families with Teenagers: Talk about how Jesus’ victory over the serpent’s seed changes the way your family lives today.
Application Step (All): Share your “born again” story with someone this week. If you haven’t been born again, pray and invite Jesus, the Seed, into your life.
Day 5 – Conflict Between the Seeds
Big Idea: We were created for conflict—not as victims, but as those who bring opposition to the enemy by living in God’s truth.
Scripture: Genesis 3:15; Romans 16:20; 1 John 3:8–9
Quote from Pastor Chad:
“You were created to bring conflict, resistance, and opposition to the kingdom of darkness. Every time you choose God’s Word over feelings, you are instigating conflict against the enemy.”
Discussion Questions:
- New Christians: What does Romans 16:20 promise about God’s victory over Satan?
- Mature Christians: According to 1 John 3:8–9, why did Jesus come?
- Jr. & Sr. High Students: What’s one area where you can bring resistance to the enemy by obeying God’s Word?
- Families with Young Children: Read Romans 16:20. Ask: What will God do to Satan? How does that make us brave?
- Families with Teenagers: Discuss what it means to live as a family who “crushes the enemy under our feet” by choosing God’s way together.
Application Step (All): Each morning declare: “I am not a victim. Christ in me is greater, and today I choose His Word over my feelings.”
Bonus Reflection Ideas
- Seeds of Belief Journal
Spend a week writing down two columns:
- Seeds of the Enemy (lies, feelings, or temptations you recognize)
- Seeds of the Word (scriptures that speak the truth about those lies)
At the end of the week, reflect on how your thinking and choices shifted when you replaced lies with truth.
- Trace the Seed Through Scripture
Do a Bible study on the theme of seed across the Bible. Start in Genesis 1, Genesis 3:15, and then follow it into Galatians 3, John 12:24, and 1 John 3. Ask: How does the picture of “seed” help me understand God’s plan for redemption and my identity in Christ? - Feelings vs. Belief Exercise
For one week, keep a daily list of moments where your feelings pulled you in one direction, and compare them to what God’s Word says. End each day by asking: Which seed did I water today? - Family Reflection – Plant & Watch
As a family, plant real seeds in soil and care for them daily. Use this as a living reminder that seeds grow with time, care, and consistency. Reflect together: What seeds of faith are we planting and nurturing in our home? - Declare the Victory
Memorize Romans 16:20 and 1 John 3:8. Speak them out loud each morning: “The God of peace will crush Satan under my feet. The Son of God was revealed to destroy the works of the devil.” Reflect at the end of the week on how declaring God’s Word out loud shaped your mindset and choices.
