Print Student Study Guide

Based on the message by Chad Everett

OVERVIEW

In this message, Chad Everett teaches from Luke 10 about the authority Jesus has given His followers.

Jesus sent His disciples into the harvest with a mission. When they returned, they were amazed that even demons submitted to them in Jesus’ name. Jesus reminded them that He had already given them authority to trample on the power of the enemy.

Many believers know this truth but do not live like it.

Walking in spiritual authority often begins with a clear decision: stop negotiating with what God has already told you to resist.

Because of Jesus:

  • You are sent.
    • You carry authority in His name.
    • You are not called to live intimidated or defeated.

For students, this authority is not just something for church services — it affects how you live in school hallways, locker rooms, classrooms, friend groups, sports teams, jobs, and family life.

Jesus has given you authority to stand firm and live differently.

Sometimes walking in that authority begins with a simple decision:

“No. This stops here.”

HOW TO USE THIS GUIDE

Hear → Answer → Act

Each section begins with a focus statement from the sermon.

Read the Scripture out loud.

Let the Bible answer the questions.

The goal is not just learning information — but living in obedience.

Open your Bible. Go to the text. Let Scripture shape the way you think and live.

SECTION 1 — SENT INTO YOUR WORLD

Focus

“The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few.”

Jesus did not call His followers to hide their faith.
He sends them into the world around them.

READ

Luke 10: 1–2 and Matthew 9: 37–38

RESPOND

  1. According to Luke 10: 1, what did Jesus do before sending the seventy-two disciples out?
  2. In Luke 10: 2, how does Jesus describe the harvest and the number of laborers, and what does that reveal about how Jesus sees the world around us?
  3. How might Jesus be sending you into the harvest through your school, team, friend group, workplace, or family relationships?

REFLECT

  • Do I see myself as someone Jesus has sent into my school and friendships?
    • Where do I feel pressure to keep my faith quiet or hidden?
    • What would it look like to see my everyday life as a mission field?

SECTION 2 — AUTHORITY IN JESUS’ NAME

Focus

“Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name.”

The disciples discovered that the authority of Jesus is real when we act in faith.

READ

Luke 10: 17–18 and Matthew 28: 18–20

RESPOND

  1. According to Luke 10: 17, what happened when the disciples ministered in the name of Jesus?
  2. In Matthew 28: 18, what does Jesus say about where all authority belongs, and what does that reveal about the source of a believer’s authority?
  3. How could remembering that Jesus has all authority change the way you respond to pressure, fear, or temptation at school or with friends?

REFLECT

  • Do I believe Jesus has authority over the struggles I face?
    • Where do I feel the most pressure to compromise my faith?
    • How might trusting Jesus’ authority change the way I handle that situation?

SECTION 3 — AUTHORITY TO TRAMPLE

Focus

“Behold, I give you authority to trample on serpents and scorpions.”

Jesus has given believers authority over the power of the enemy.

That means we do not have to accept every lie, temptation, or pressure that comes our way.

READ

Luke 10: 19 and Romans 16: 20

RESPOND

  1. According to Luke 10: 19, what authority does Jesus say He has given His followers?
  2. In Romans 16: 20, what promise does Paul give about what God will ultimately do to Satan?
  3. As students, what situations do you commonly face where you need to stand firm — things like peer pressure, gossip, anxiety, comparison, or temptation?

REFLECT

  • Where have I been believing a lie about myself or my identity?
    • What pressure at school or in my friend group do I need to stand against?
    • What would it look like to trust Jesus’ authority in that situation?

SECTION 4 — PUT YOUR FOOT DOWN

Focus

Sometimes spiritual authority looks like making a firm decision:

“No. This stops here.”

Believers are called to resist the enemy rather than go along with what everyone else is doing.

READ

James 4: 7 and Ephesians 4: 27

RESPOND

  1. According to James 4: 7, what two actions are believers instructed to take?
  2. What does this verse reveal about the relationship between submitting to God and resisting the devil?
  3. What situations might require a student to “put their foot down” — refusing gossip, resisting temptation, standing up for someone being mistreated, or choosing integrity?

REFLECT

  • Where do I need to take a firm stand for what is right?
    • What influence do my friends or social media have on my choices?
    • What decision might God be asking me to make this week?

SECTION 5 — REMEMBER WHO YOU ARE

Focus

“Do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”

Our authority flows from our identity in Christ.

READ

Luke 10: 20 and Colossians 1: 13–14

RESPOND

  1. According to Luke 10: 20, what does Jesus say should be the greater reason for rejoicing?
  2. In Colossians 1: 13–14, what has God done for those who belong to Christ, and what does that reveal about our identity in Him?
  3. How might understanding your identity in Christ change the way you handle comparison, insecurity, or the pressure to fit in?

REFLECT

  • Do I base my identity on what others think about me or on who Jesus says I am?
    • Where do I struggle with insecurity or comparison?
    • How might remembering that I belong to Jesus change the way I see myself?

UNIFIED PRACTICE FOR THE WEEK

This week, live intentionally as someone who walks in the authority Jesus has given you.

Step 1 — Identify the Assignment

Ask the Lord where He might want to use you this week.

Write down one person or place:

  • a friend
    • someone who feels left out
    • a teammate
    • a classmate
    • someone at work or home

Step 2 — Agree With Truth

Read aloud:

Luke 10: 19
James 4: 7

Say:

“I belong to Jesus.
He has given me authority over the enemy.
I will follow Him and stand firm in truth.”

Step 3 — Take One Spirit-Led Action

Ask the Holy Spirit where He might be sending you this week.

Choose one step of obedience:

  • Encourage someone who feels alone
    • Pray for a friend
    • Refuse to join gossip
    • Stand up for someone who is mistreated
    • Share your faith when the opportunity comes

Step 4 — Prepare for Accountability

Before the week ends, ask yourself:

“If Jesus asked how I represented Him this week, what would I say?”

Then respond accordingly.
