THE WAY, THE TRUTH & THE LIFE
Message from Blake Bradley
OVERVIEW
Have you ever wondered how you can know what is really true?
Jesus gave us the answer. He said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.” Jesus is not just someone who shows us the way. He is the Way. He does not just teach us true things. He is the Truth. And real life is found in Him.
There are lots of voices around us. Friends, videos, shows, games, social media, and even our own feelings can tell us what to believe. But not everything we hear is true. We can learn what is true by knowing Jesus and reading God’s Word.
Jesus also taught that knowing His Word is not enough. He wants us to do what He says. When we hear Jesus and obey Him, it is like building a house on a strong rock. When we mix God’s truth with things that go against His Word, our foundation becomes more like sand.
Jesus wants us to know Him, trust His Word, and build our lives on Him.
HOW TO USE THIS STUDY GUIDE
Read About It → Talk About It → Think About It
Open your Bible and read each passage together.
Look for the answers in the Bible before answering the Talk About It questions. These questions follow the same truths the adults are discussing, so Kidz can be part of the conversation too.
Then use the Think About It questions to talk about how God’s Word connects to your own life.
MEMORY VERSE
“Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.’” John 14:6 (NKJV)
BIG WORDS
Truth = What is real and right according to God.
Salvation = Being rescued from sin and given new life through Jesus.
Obey = To hear what God says and do it.
Foundation = What something is built on and depends on to stay strong.
Mixture = When different things are mixed together. In this message, Blake used mixture to show what happens when we mix God’s truth with ideas that go against His Word.
SECTION 1 — JESUS IS THE ONLY WAY
BIG IDEA
Jesus is the only way to God the Father. We cannot earn our way to God by being good enough or doing enough good things. We need Jesus.
Jesus called Himself the door. Just like a door gives us a way to enter somewhere, Jesus is the only way to the Father and salvation.
READ ABOUT IT
John 14:6; Acts 4:10–12; John 10:7–10
TALK ABOUT IT
- What three things does Jesus call Himself in John 14:6?
- Who does Jesus say can come to the Father without Him?
- According to Acts 4:12, in whose name are we saved?
- What does Jesus call Himself in John 10:7 and 9?
- What does Jesus say happens to someone who enters through Him?
THINK ABOUT IT
- Why do you think Jesus said He is “the way” instead of saying He is “a way”?
- Have you ever thought being a good person was enough to make you right with God?
- What does it mean for you to trust Jesus instead of trying to be good enough?
- What is one way you can follow Jesus this week?

SECTION 2 — JESUS IS THE TRUTH
BIG IDEA
When Pilate asked Jesus, “What is truth?” the Truth was standing right in front of him!
Not everything we hear is true. Something does not become true just because a friend says it, we see it in a video, or we really feel like it is true. Jesus is the Truth, and God has given us His Word to help us know what is true.
READ ABOUT IT
John 18:33–38; John 8:31–32; John 17:17
TALK ABOUT IT
- What question did Pilate ask Jesus in John 18:38?
- What does Jesus tell His disciples to do with His Word in John 8:31?
- What does Jesus say we will know?
- What will the truth do for us?
- According to John 17:17, what is truth?
THINK ABOUT IT
- Where do you hear ideas about what is right and wrong?
- If a friend tells you something that is different from what God says, which one should you believe?
- Can something become true just because you really feel like it is true? Why not?
- How can reading the Bible help you recognize something that is not true?
- Is there something God says in His Word that you need to remember this week?

SECTION 3 — BUILD YOUR LIFE ON THE ROCK, NOT MIXTURE
BIG IDEA
Jesus told a story about two people who built houses. One built on rock, and one built on sand.
Blake explained that sand is made of different things mixed together. He used it as a picture of what can happen when we mix God’s truth with ideas that go against His Word.
Jesus is our Rock. When we build our lives on Him and His Word, we have a strong foundation.
READ ABOUT IT
Matthew 7:24–27; Psalm 106:34–39
TALK ABOUT IT
- What did the wise man build his house on?
- What did the foolish man build his house on?
- What happened when the rain, floods, and wind came against the house built on the rock?
- What happened to the house built on the sand?
- According to Psalm 106:35, what happened when God’s people mixed with the nations around them?
THINK ABOUT IT
- Have you ever heard someone say something was okay, but you knew from the Bible that it wasn’t? What should you do?
- Why can it be easy to go along with something just because everyone else is doing it?
- Have you ever known something was wrong but wanted to do it anyway because your friends were doing it?
- What can you do when something you hear does not seem to match God’s Word?
- What would it look like for you to build your life on Jesus at home, at school, or with friends?

SECTION 4 — HEAR THE WORD AND DO IT
BIG IDEA
Jesus said the wise person does two things: hears His words and does them.
We can know what the Bible says and still choose not to do it. Jesus wants us to listen and obey. Every time we choose to do what Jesus says, we are building our lives on Him.
READ ABOUT IT
Matthew 7:24–27; James 1:22–25
TALK ABOUT IT
- What two things does the wise person do in Matthew 7:24?
- What does Jesus compare that person to?
- What does the foolish person do differently?
- What does James 1:22 tell us not to be?
- What does James tell us to do with God’s Word?
THINK ABOUT IT
- Have you ever known the right thing to do but chosen not to do it?
- Why isn’t knowing what God says the same as obeying Him?
- Is there something your parents have taught you from God’s Word that you need to obey?
- Is there something Jesus has taught you about kindness, honesty, forgiveness, or how you treat others that you need to put into practice?
- What is one thing you know God wants you to do this week?

SECTION 5 — JESUS IS THE ONLY LIFE
BIG IDEA
Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life.”
Lots of things can be fun and make us happy, but they cannot take Jesus’ place. Friends, toys, games, sports, money, or exciting experiences cannot give us the life Jesus gives.
Jesus gives us eternal life, and because He is alive, we can live a new life with Him.
READ ABOUT IT
John 11:21–27; John 10:10
TALK ABOUT IT
- What did Martha believe would happen to Lazarus?
- What did Jesus call Himself in John 11:25?
- What does Jesus say about the person who believes in Him?
- According to John 10:10, what does the thief come to do?
- What did Jesus say He came to give us?
THINK ABOUT IT
- What are some things you really enjoy that make you happy?
- Can those things take the place of Jesus? Why not?
- Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life.” Who does this tell us gives us true life?
- Is there something you have been looking to for happiness more than you have been looking to Jesus?
- How can you spend time with Jesus and know Him better this week?

REMEMBER THIS!
Jesus is the Way. Jesus is the Truth. Jesus is the Life.
There will be lots of voices telling you what to believe as you grow up. You do not have to guess what is true. Get to know Jesus. Read His Word. When something does not agree with what God says, do not mix it into what you believe.
And remember, it is not enough just to know what Jesus says. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you obey Him too. Hear His Word and do it. When you do, you are building your life on the Rock.
Know Jesus. Trust His Word. Obey what He says. Build your life on Him.
