Welcome, Families!

This week, your family will learn how God helps us follow Him instead of ourselves.
Spiritual authority grows when we trust God, listen to His voice, and choose His way together.

As a family, you’ll:

  • Read God’s Word
  • Talk about what it means
  • Practice trusting and following Jesus in everyday life

So grab your Bibles, gather together, and let’s dig in.

⛏️ DIG 1 — THE CHURCH HELPS US GROW

READ

1 John 2:15–16

ASK YOUR CHILDREN

  • What does God tell us not to love?
  • What are the three things the Bible says come from the world?
  • Does God want us to follow Him or follow everything we want?

Say this simple truth together:
“God helps us grow when we follow Him.”

REFLECT

Help your kids understand:
Church isn’t just a place we go — it’s where we learn how to live like Jesus every day.

Ask:

  • How can we follow Jesus at home or at school?
  • Who helps you learn about God?
  • What does following Jesus look like this week?

Remind them:
“God teaches us how to live His way.”

RESPOND — FAMILY ACTIVITY

GROWING TOGETHER

Ask each family member:

  • One way they want to grow closer to Jesus
  • One choice they want God’s help with this week

Pray together:
“Jesus, help our family follow You and grow together.”

⛏️ DIG 2 — JESUS SHOWS US HOW TO TRUST GOD

READ

Luke 4:1–2

KID DEFINITION — TRUST

Trust means believing God knows what is best and choosing to follow Him, even when we don’t understand or when it feels hard.

You can say it like this to kids:

“Trust is believing God loves you, knows what He’s doing, and will take care of you.”

ASK YOUR CHILDREN

  • Who filled Jesus with the Holy Spirit?
  • Who led Jesus into the wilderness?
  • Did Jesus trust God even when He was hungry and alone?

Say this simple truth together:
“We can trust God to lead us.”

REFLECT

Help your kids understand:
Jesus trusted God even when things were uncomfortable. Trust means listening and following, not just liking what God says.

Ask:

  • When is it hard for you to trust?
  • How does it feel to follow when you don’t know what will happen next?
  • Who can help you trust God when you feel unsure?

Remind them:
“God leads us because He loves us and wants what is best.”

RESPOND — FAMILY ACTIVITY

JESUS SAYS (Following Jesus Game)

This game helps us practice listening and following.

How to play:

  • One person is the leader and gives simple directions like:
    • “Jesus says clap your hands”
    • “Jesus says take one step forward”
    • “Touch your head”
  • Only follow the direction if it begins with “Jesus says…”
  • Take turns being the leader.

After the game, ask:

  • Was it easier to follow when you listened carefully?
  • What happened when you didn’t listen closely?
  • How is following Jesus like this game?

Say together:
“We listen to Jesus and follow Him.”

PRAY TOGETHER

“Jesus, help our family trust You, listen to You, and follow You every day.”

⛏️ DIG 3 — WANTING THINGS VS TRUSTING GOD

READ

Luke 4:3–4

ASK YOUR CHILDREN

  • What did the enemy tell Jesus to do?
  • Was Jesus really just tempted with food?
  • Who did Jesus choose to trust?

Say this simple truth together:
“We need God more than anything else.”

REFLECT

Help your kids understand:
Sometimes we want things right away. God helps us wait and trust Him.

Ask:

  • What is something you really want right now?
  • Is it hard to wait?
  • How can God help you when you want something badly?

Remind them:
“God takes care of what we really need.”

RESPOND — FAMILY ACTIVITY

WAIT & TRUST

Choose one thing the family will wait for today (snack, screen time, dessert).
Use that time to pray together instead.

Say together:
“God, we trust You more than what we want.”

⛏️ DIG 4 — GOD TELLS US WHO WE ARE

READ

John 1:18
John 15:5

ASK YOUR CHILDREN

  • Who does God say Jesus is?
  • Did Jesus have to prove who He was?
  • Who tells us the truth about who we are?

Say this simple truth together:
“God tells us who we are.”

REFLECT

Help your kids understand:
God knows us, loves us, and stays close to us.

Ask:

  • What are good things God says about you?
  • Who helps you remember those truths?
  • How does it feel to know God is with you?

Remind them:
“Without Jesus, we can’t do anything — but with Him, we grow.”

RESPOND — FAMILY ACTIVITY

IDENTITY STATEMENTS

Each person finishes this sentence:

  • “God says I am __________.”

Pray together:
“Jesus, thank You for loving us and helping us grow.”

⛏️ DIG 5 — GOD’S WORD HELPS US TRUST HIM

READ

Psalm 91:9–13
Luke 4:12

ASK YOUR CHILDREN

  • What does God promise when we trust Him?
  • Did Jesus use God’s Word to obey God or to show off?
  • Why should we listen to God’s Word?

Say this simple truth together:
“God’s Word helps us follow Him.”

REFLECT

Help your kids understand:
God’s Word is meant to help us trust Him, not tell God what to do.

Ask:

  • How can the Bible help us make good choices?
  • Who can help you understand the Bible?
  • When should we listen to God’s Word?

Remind them:
“God’s Word leads us closer to Him.”

RESPOND — FAMILY ACTIVITY

TRUTH & TRUST

Parent says a statement. Family responds together.

  • “God is with us.” → “We trust Him.”
  • “God knows what’s best.” → “We trust Him.”
  • “God loves us.” → “We trust Him.”

Pray together:
“God, help us trust You and follow Your Word.”
