Welcome to The Roads Church!

The windows, the windows. Let them lie. Come on. Church windows, the windows [inaudible]

Thank you. Jesus. Lord, we give you highest praise. Continue to touching hearts. Lord. As we continue to worship, he came to house crowd off beautiful. [inaudible] he? Hasn’

Isn’t he wonderful? Isn’t he worthy? No, as we you’re singing that song, I was singing out to him. You deserve it all because he does deserve it all. And I felt like he’s I felt like he was saying to me, and he wanted me to share with you that you are, you deserve it all. And that I deserve it all. And he loves you that much because you deserve it, that he gave his son to die for you. He gave his son so that you could have relationship with him, that you can be with him daily and you deserve it. He wants you to walk fully in that. See this week I was reading in the book of acts and I got to chapter five and it’s talking about the apostles and man they’re really coming into their own. And they’re walking in power with signs and wonders.

At The Roads Church, They’re healing people. And even says that people are like scattered to try to get Peter’s shadow, because if they would just get in his shadow, they would be healed. And that’s the kind of power that he wants you to walk in because you deserve it all. But I began to ask the Lord, how could you see that? And not, not want to join because it says that the people, they esteem the apostles, but they dare not join. Like they looked up to them and they saw all the things that were doing, but they dare not join them. And I just, I couldn’t fathom why they wouldn’t want to join them in the Lord, began to lay on my heart. And he asked me and I thought it was a little harsh. He said, well, why didn’t you, when you were one of those people say, why didn’t you join them in?

It was because I didn’t think I deserved it. I didn’t know. I could walk in that much power. I thought that was just like a deluxe, super verse of Christianity. But he’s saying no, that’s that’s for everybody. That’s for all of you. I want you to walk in that. But the cost is that you’re going to have to live and lead a submitted life. You have to let you have to lay down your own will. Even Jesus said not my will, but your will be done father. And so I began to say, search my heart. Lord, tell me why I’m not submitting. Why, why there? Why are there places in my life where maybe I haven’t submitted before, where I still need to submit so I can have more of you Lord. And he said that you, and he said, this is for me. And to share it with you, but, but there are places in your heart where you’ve maybe submitted before to people.

And they’ve heard you because when you submit, you’re very vulnerable. In so many times, we get hurt from other people and we’ve let those hurts. Keep us from being vulnerable with the Lord. But he’s saying that I am good. I will never leave you. I will never forsake you. I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord plans of good and not of evil. So let him into your heart. Let him begin to heal because he’s the only one that can heal. So I was reading this week. I found out that you actually have like two brains in your body. You have your, obviously your brain in your head, but you also have a second brain. This in your heart. So many times we gain, we get hurt in our lives, whether it be pain or fear, anxiety, or trauma, whatever that may be in the world will tell you ways to heal your head.

They might tell you to go through therapy and I’m not knocking that they might tell you to do certain things, meditation, whatever it may be, the heal your head, but until you heal your heart, you’re never going to fully be able to submit to God and walk in the power that he has for you. So I just feel like God’s wanting to heal some hearts today at The Roads Church. So I just ask you to place your hand over your heart and just say, Lord, if there’s anything in me that needs healed. If there’s anything that I’m, that I’m falling sword, if there’s anything that’s holding me back from submitting, submitting and taking more of you and getting more of your light in Lord. I just ask that you heal it. You heal it. And I’ll tell you right now, the Lord has been the most powerful heart surgeon in my life.

He took out my old heart. It was hurt. It had been hurt so many times and he gave me a new heart and I’d love more than I’ve ever loved before. And I feel joy more than I’ve ever felt before. Because when you allow him to, when you submit to him, you learn that your own will pales in comparison to his will. And you start to taste the fruit of his will in your life. And you start to submit and he starts to change the way you think he starts to change the way you speak. He starts to change the things that you do, and you begin to taste of his fruit and you begin to see how good it is. Oh, it’s so good. And you’ll, you won’t want anything else. Cause everything else, nothing compares to the song says it perfectly, nothing comparable to that because when you start tasting it and the people begin to see that fruit in your life and they’ll become, they’ll become curious as to what you’re doing, why you seem different, what it is that’s about you, that, that, that they can’t put their finger on.

And that’s when you point your finger to Jesus. And that’s when you give him all the glory. And that’s when they’re able to see his true love of what he did for on the cross. And when it comes together, man, that’s when the Lord begins to give you influence because you’re pointing and you’re building the kingdom. You’re allowing him to be with you. Seeing in my, in my walk with the Lord. At first I knew he was with me and I would tell myself he’s with me on Sunday mornings, but then I would leave and I would forget. Or then I in that kind of grew. And then he, I would say he’s with me in the storms or he’s with me in those, in those great moments. He’s with me at the top of the mountain. He’s with me in the Valley. But then I would forget that he’s saying no, no, no, no.

I am with you. I am with you through it all. I’m with you. When you wake up in the morning, I’m with you. When you go to lunch, I’m with you. When that person cuts you off in traffic, I’m with you. Whenever you have that great day at work and you come home and you want to celebrate I’m with you at night before you go to bed, I’m with you. I’m living inside of you. When you ask the Holy spirit. When you ask for the Holy spirit, he gives it to you. He’s a good father and he’s good, not evil. And if you being evil, know how to give good gifts to your, to your kids. How much more will he give to you? He said, I will give you bread. I will give you a fish. I won’t give you stone. I won’t give you a snake.

When you ask for the Holy spirit, I’m going to fill you with it. But when you submit, I’ll truly show you how to walk in it. So I just wanted just to pray that over you guys right now, I know for myself, because I needed just as much Lord, I just pray for the power of submission that you show us in our lives, where we’re still using and doing our own will and where your will could be done, where we could grow more, where we can let more of your light in where we can taste more of your fruit and bear more fruit for your kingdom. Bring more souls into your kingdom. Lord heal our hearts. If there’s anything that’s keeping us from, from letting you love us more. If there’s anything inside of us that is keeping us from experiencing you into the fullest. Lord, I just pray that you reach down from heaven right now and you touch open the heavenly Gates, open the heavenly Gates. We need an experience from heaven because that’s what truly changes people in Jesus name. I pray.

Amen. Amen.

If you guys want to go ahead and make your way back to your seats, The Roads Church, while you’re doing that, I want to take a minute and say, what is up? He wrote family. How’s it going? Go ahead and comment. Down below where you’re watching from, you’re having a watch party, man. Dan post a picture to the road’s group. I love seeing those pictures. Don’t me a shout out, tag me in it for those of you don’t know. My name is Domaine Prince. I think I always forget to say that, but that is my name. And I just love, we’d love to connect with you guys and tag me on Facebook. And if you’re a first time guests watching as an erodes member, we want to connect with you. So go ahead and pull out your phone and text the word roads to six 1-824-309-ZERO.

We’re going to send you some information, connect with you and get you started on your next steps. And now speaking the first time guests, can we just give a shout out to any first-time guests we might have here in the room? Yeah. What’s up first time guests. Yeah. Yeah. We are happy to have you and we want to connect with you and get you started on your next step. So in order to do that, you should have gotten a worship guide. When you came in here in that worship guide, there’s a connect card. Take that out, fill it out, take it to the next steps tables. We’ve got one here in the, in the foyer. We got one there in the cafe. Uh, they’re going to partner with you and find out what makes sense for your next steps. Cause we all have next steps.

I have next steps you have next steps depend on where your walk is. We’re going to get to know you a little bit and find out what makes sense, whether that be water baptism, which is actually next Sunday. So if you’re ready to make a public declaration of your faith, man, I tell you, I call the office, get signed up, go to the next steps table. They’ll help you get signed up for water baptism, or maybe you want to join a road’s group, man, I get stronger every week and I’ve been missing my guys I’ve missed group and I can tell in my life whenever I haven’t been around those strong men. Um, but man, I’m lucky enough. I got a text message group. They string, we strengthen each other. Our group is doing some amazing things. I know there’s some other groups out there that are doing amazing things in the church, get plugged in because we’re stronger when we do life together.

Um, other next step might be growth track. So coming up, we have growth track on April 17th at the, uh, North city or at the Mount Carmel campus. And then we have growth track, um, in North city, man, I’m getting stumble, uh, here in North city on the 24th. Um, so those are fast track growth track because we know that life happens. Sometimes it’s hard to get here for straight Sundays. We understand that. So we’re going to make it available. And just because you think, if you, Hey, I go to North city, I CA I, but I’m not available on the 24th. We’ll then go to Mount Carmel, go on the 17th. We are one church with two locations. So that is just as available there as it is here. Um, whatever works best for your schedule. We’re open. Come in, get plugged in, get out of the crowd into the crew because I’ll tell you what there was so longer.

Me and my wife didn’t do growth track because things would happen and we’d make excuses. And we were busy. But man, once we did that and we got plugged in and started serving, we used to begin to fulfill. We begin to find fulfillment that we’d never experienced before we began to learn what our green was. And for those of you don’t know, we say find your green. It’s where your passion and your purpose come together with your talents to fill a need in the church. And once you get plugged in and once you find that and find that you’re going to start filling things that you’ve never felt before you quit attending church, you start becoming the church and you begin to connect with these people around you. Oh, it’s so great. That’s how we’re meant to live. I truly believe that that’s how we’re meant to live.

That’s how Jesus lived. He lived what he did life with 12 disciples. He wants you to do life with each other and help serve because he came to serve and not be served. That’s what, that’s what Jesus said. Our King came to serve and not be served. And so that’s something that we are trying to instill in our youth and in our roads, kids, man, there’s some amazing things happening in the roads. Kids. My son continues to amaze me with some of the knowledge he comes home with. And there’s certain situations that happened and I’m like, I don’t know what to do. And he’s like, yeah, we should just pray about it. Like yeah, we should pray about it. You’re right buddy. Um, and that’s not to brag on him. That’s saying, but it’s being instilled in him is great. And it’s, he’s carrying it throughout the week and that’s what we want to do.

So we’re going to partner with the parents when you pick them up, you’re going to find you’re going to get some materials to help them. Cause it doesn’t just start and end on Sunday. It’s it’s throughout the week is whenever we are building his kingdom. Um, and speaking to the kids, man, the move man, do we have any move members in here? Any move youth? Yeah, there’s some hands I love you guys are some couple more hands, man. There are some special people in the move right now with the youth that we have with some of the leaders that we have. There are great things happening every Wednesday night. And I just urge you if you have some, uh, if you have someone in your family, if you know someone, the ages a fifth grade through 12th grade, bring them out, bring them out because they are going to experience something that you can’t get anywhere else.

It’s so great. It’s so moving man. They teach me more than I teach them. It’s like, I feel lucky that they even let me be a part of it. So I just urge you come check it out. We’ll talk with you. Um, and they’re doing some amazing things. So speaking of, uh, we were talking about growth track on the 24th, our move youth are going to be doing, uh, partnering with sleep in heavenly peace. Um, on April 24th, we are doing a build for those of you who may not know, sleep in heavenly pieces and organization and their, uh, their mission is that nobody sleeps on the floor. No youth sleeps on the floor. Um, I didn’t realize it, but that is, that’s something that’s not, it’s kind of a luxury. If you, if you sleep in a bed, there are many, many kids out there that don’t have beds to sleep in and we’re trying to fix that.

And so our move youth is going to come together at The Roads Church. We’re going to serve. Um, so you will see some tents out there, out front, um, both, both entrances and exits. Um, we’re going to be raising money. Our goal is $6,000. We want to build 15 beds. Um, so just so you know, if you want to sponsor a bed yourself, it’s about $400, uh, for the bed, the sheets, the pillows, everything. And man, it’s a great, great way to sow some seeds right here into Southern Illinois. So some seeds right here into some people that are hurting in our, in our area and we can really show them the light of Jesus and the love of Jesus. So if you’re interested in that, um, go out to the one of those tents and we’ll get you connected. Um, and so now we’ve, uh, we’ve worshiped with our singing now, want to worship with our giving.

So if you have your ties and offerings, go and get those out, uh, just want to pray over those real quick, dear Lord, we thank you for the power of the ties. We thank you that we sow a seed and we may do the watering Lord, but you give the increase. So I just pray for great increase over any seeds that are sown right now. I pray for blessings over the giver. Lord, I pray that you rebuke the devour in Jesus’ name for anybody. Who’s giving it at the Bowers, trying to come and take away. Lord, I just pray for protection, the blood of Jesus and the power of the tide over them right now, Lord, I just pray that you continue to multiply the seeds and reap a bountiful harvest of souls and for the kingdom in Jesus name. Amen. Amen. All right guys. So we have gotten the rogues news than a testimony video than pastor Chad’s can be. It’s a powerful message.

Hello everyone here at The Roads Church. My name is Beth cook, and this is my story. The Lord healed my body of cancer. This life changing event happened early in 2019 and October of 2018. I was diagnosed with carcinoid neuroendocrine cancer of the stomach. It is a slow growing cancer and doesn’t respond to drug therapy. Good news though, the doctor said he could cure me. Problem was the cure involved, removing my stomach? All of it. I asked everyone who I knew was a Christian to please pray for me. And they did removal of my stomach was tentatively planned for mid-January. I anxiously waited for the phone call to give me the date and time I should arrive for surgery. When the call came, the doctor said, not everyone on the team believes you have cancer. We want you to come back in January for more tests, we want larger biopsies. The larger biopsies gave the same diagnosis, carcinoid neuroendocrine cancer between the time of diagnosis and the middle of March, which was still in the future.

At that time, I became a vigorous prayer warrior. I have always prayed to Jesus, but I was outwardly begging for prayer and healing. When I was diagnosed with cancer, the doctor said I had so many polyps in my stomach that he stopped counting at 100, since the removal of the large biopsies, I’ve had three endoscopic surgeries of the stomach. Each time 10 to 12 polyps were removed, except for the last time being December, 2019. After that surgery, the doctor said, I removed only a few polyps and the rest have gone away by themselves. Your stomach is 100% better. I’m totally amazed. My testimony has evolved during the past year and continues to do so. I realize it’s about the healer and not the healing life on earth is a vapor. And so is an earthly healing. Of course, we need to thank God for the blessings he gives, but I was more concerned with myself than I was with what Jesus had done for me on the cross. Not everyone receives an earthly healing. I don’t know why I did. I do know carefree Christian will receive an eternal healing. The gift Jesus offers us is eternal life with him in heaven. After our earthly bodies die,

Man, I man, what’s up everybody. Good morning. Good morning. Welcome to the Rhodes church. So glad to have all of you here. Say a big welcome to all of our people here in the North city auditorium. And take a moment just to look into the camera and thank all of our erodes family. Watching online overflow room as well of our eager roads groups. Those are people that are hosting actual people into their homes to watch the services. We have it going on and in Wisconsin and the big North woods all the way in Fort Bragg, we have them in Decatur, Illinois. We have them in LaSalle, Illinois. We have them all in Foxborough, North Carolina. So come on North city. Can we make everybody feel welcome this morning? What’s up special. Shout out to our family, just up the roads, the roads Mount Carmel. We love you guys.

And so thankful for each and every one of you. You are fantastic. So it’s amazing to be in the house of God, serving Jesus with our friends and family. We’re looking forward to what God’s doing in your life and what he’s doing in our area. And so we’re just thankful our vision vision here at the road’s church is to connect people with Jesus from all roads of life. And we want you to get connected. We know that it’s valuable for you not just to attend a church, but connected in and feel like home and family. And we’ve found a couple of ways that makes that better for you is that you would be jumping in and be a part of our crew. The roads crews are people that volunteer and serve in any capacity. You’ve got a lot of areas here that God’s using people, but remember the, the value in that is not just to fill a role or task, but to use what God’s given you to serve.

Other people. That is a huge part of our role as Christians is to serve other people. And the second benefit of that is you get to meet more people and connect and build friendships and relationships. I encourage you if you’re just attending, jump in and get on the crew and meet some great people. The second way you can do that is getting part of our roads groups. You can host a group or attended current, uh, roads group and meeting in houses and developing again, relationships. That intimacy is so important in getting to know people so you can feel a part. So we encourage you to do that. Let’s just pray. And before we get into the message today, father, I thank you for your love, for your presence. We look to you and I say, Holy spirit, come, come, Lord. Let it be all for you. Everything’s free. We give you the highest praise. You’re wonderful. You’re beautiful. You’re kind and lovely.

You’re beyond compare. So Lord, I think thank you for just meeting with us today. Show yourself strong. We lay out the welcome for you. Lord. We want to hear from you. It’s in Jesus name. We pray everybody say, amen. Amen. Listen to the title of the message. Today is meeting God, meeting God. It is not let no one deceive you. We have moved on from that. Got used to saying that as our title every week. But uh, we moved on. God’s just kind of taking me in a different direction here where I don’t know if we’ll do series. I’m just kinda going week to week and whatever he was telling me, he wants to talk about that’s what I’m talking about. So I don’t know if this is a series or if this is a one hit wonder either way. I want to meet with God.

So here at the roads, we get excited when we open up our Bibles because we believe God meets with us through his word. So we get a little pumped about it. So if you got your Bibles today, let’s open them up to Exodus chapter 19 Exodus 19, great job Mount Carmel. You guys are awesome at the Wu sermon notes are available in your worship guide and on the YouVersion Bible app. If you want to get that out and you can use that, please bring your Bibles to church. Don’t take what I say for granted. You want to make sure and verify it in the Bible, know where it’s at in your own Bible, Exodus chapter 19. I want to jump right into this meeting. God meeting God. Oh Jesus, come on. We want to meet you today. Look at verse three little backstory. This is the children of Israel coming out of Egypt.

They’ve been wandering in the wilderness and they come to Mount Sinai. This is where the Lord gives the 10 commandments. You’ll see that in Exodus, chapter 20. So in verse three and Moses went up to God. This is up on the mountain, out on Mount Sinai and the Lord called to him from the mountain saying, thus, you shall say to the house of Jacob and tell the children of Israel. You have seen what I did to the Egyptians and how I bore you on Eagle’s wings and brought you to myself. Now, therefore, if you will indeed do two things, obey my voice and keep my covenant, obey my voice and keep my covenant. Remember this is under the old covenant and the old Testament, and it was the key for them to have an active relationship with God. They had to obey his voice and keep his covenant or his commandments.

Now we’ll find in the Hebrews that the Bible talks about getting away with the old you’re doing away with the old covenant and making a better covenant because this covenant was between God and man, and how many knows that we don’t hold up our end of the bargain very well. So God said, you know what? I’m going to make a better covenant. And God made a covenant between he and Jesus so that covenant can not be broken. So how do we get in on that covenant? We have to go through Jesus. So he is the way the truth and the life, no one comes to the father except through him. Jesus is our covenant keeper. So then you shall be notice what God says. You shall be a special treasure. To me above all people for all the earth is mine. Check this out verse six. And you shall be to me, this is God’s intention for the people. And you shall be to me, a kingdom of priests, A kingdom of priests,

Plural

God’s desire from the beginning was to have a kingdom of priests, not just one God’s intent was never to speak to one man or one woman. And they relay the message. God’s heart from the beginning was that I want to look at you all as priests. I will look at you all as a special treasure to me, I want to have a relationship. I want to have a personal interaction with all of you, a whole kingdom of you. You’re all priests.

That was his plan. That was his motive. He says a Holy nation. These are the words which you shall speak to the children of Israel. So God Moses having this interaction and God tells Moses. Now you go on, you tell the people, this is what I want to do. So Moses came called for the elders of the people and laid before them, all these words, which the Lord had commanded him. So he goes and relays the message to the people says, Hey everybody, this is what God says, tells them about the special treasure and the kingdom of priests. This is

So he tells him about all of that. And then verse say, then all the people answered together and said, this was their response to Moses. All that the Lord has spoken, we will do. So Moses brings back the words of the people to the Lord. All that the Lord has spoken, we will do. It sounds good. Doesn’t it? So Moses comes back to God. He says, I Lord, here’s what the people said about your whole special treasure and kingdom of priests deal. They said, whatever you say they’re going to do now, you and I know that’s not true. I don’t believe a word coming out of their mouth, but that’s what they said. And doesn’t it sound good that they said whatever the Lord spoken we will do, we will do remember that phrase. We will do. Here’s what jumped out at me, God desired a kingdom of priests to hang out together, to speak to them. They were satisfied to hear what he said and to do, to do. Is it important for us to do what God says? Absolutely. Absolutely. But I want to relay to you that that’s only part of the coin. It’s only one side. Be careful that we get satisfied in the doing and don’t press into the being.

I’m just, that’s a teaser that I’m just laying it out there. So, so Moses brought back the words to people, the Lord and the Lord said to Moses. So here’s what the Lord’s response was. He said, all right, good behold. I come to you in the thick cloud that the people may hear. When I speak, remember all the people he wants everybody to hear when he speaks a you and believe you forever. So Moses told the words of the people to the Lord. So it was going back and forth telling, going be the relay man, Moses between God and the people. So he says, I’m going to show up in a thick cloud, jump down to verse 16. Then it came to pass on the third day, somebody say, third day, what is it about the third day? Jesus Rose from the grave on the third day.

But on the third day, in the morning, in the morning, for those of you like to sleep in, you just missed God. I’m just kidding. In the morning that there were thunderings and lightenings and a thick cloud on the mountain. And the sound of the trumpet was very loud. So that all the people who were in the camp trembled and Moses brought the people out of the camp to meet with God. That’s where we got our title for the message meet with God. And they stood at the foot of the mountain. Now Mount Sinai was completely in smoke because of the Lord descended upon it in fire. This is how he came down in fire. It’s smoke, ascended like the smoke of a furnace and the whole mountain quite greatly. And when the blast of the trumpet sounded long and became louder and louder, Moses spoke and God answered him by boys.

Then the Lord came down upon Mount Sinai. God came down on the mountain on the top of the mountain and the Lord called Moses to the top of the mountain. And Moses went up. Whew, man, a lot of stuff here. Let me ask you this question. We’ll start out with this. Have you ever been nervous about meeting someone like maybe meeting someone important, maybe somebody famous somebody that’s kind of a big deal or maybe, maybe it’s a boss. Maybe it’s a job interview and you’re nervous about meeting them. You’re anticipating. I remember this one person in particular and I won’t say their name because they didn’t want people to get tied up in that. But this person, I was like, I saw this person and I’ve, you know, I’ve read their books and, and I was just kind of in awe when I saw them.

And I’m like, there they are. There they are. I felt, I felt like a, like a teenage girl with street boys or something. It was like, so I saw, I don’t know where that came from. Just hit delete and we’ll move on. So I saw this person and a friend of mine was real good friends with them. And so as I was standing there and my friend said, Hey, come here. I want you to meet somebody. And I’m like, Oh, it’s not them. Is it? So I said, here we walked right towards him and said, Hey, I want you to meet Chad. Chad wants to meet you. This person. I was like, Hey, how are you? I felt like a little kid going to meet him. I was nervous about that. It was this kind of like anticipating, but can you imagine, you know, may get called to a meeting and I may get called to the principal’s office or something like that.

You can be little nervous. Can you imagine getting called to a meeting with God? You imagine how they felt. You know, when they got called to a meeting with God, I mean, how would you feel? Cause God told Moses. He said, all right, listen, I want, I want to set up a meeting between me and the people I’m setting up this meeting. Was it wasn’t that? He said, I want to come see you guys. I know you can’t come see me. So I’m going to come see you. I’m going to come over to your place. They weren’t asking for a meeting with God, God was asking for a meeting with them. They weren’t saying God, we want to see you. He was saying, Hey, I want to see you. Here are the heart of God. God wants to see you more than you want to see him.

He wants to be with you. This word meet in the Hebrew means to gather together in the same place or to encounter it counter. So, as I read that, I realized that God’s desire has always been to encounter us. Not just us do things for him. We’ve limited our relationship with God. When we minimize it down to the level that we’re just satisfied to do things for him, he wants to encounter us. He wants to come hang out with you. He wants to see what you’re doing with the kids. He wants to see what you’re doing around the house. He wants to encounter you at work and see what you got going there with your employees and with your staff and with your bosses. These, I just want to come be with you at school, wherever you are on encounter you. So what was the impact of this encounter with God on the people?

The presence of God on the people look quick, look back at verse 16. So third day there was thunderings and lightenings and a thick cloud. And the sound of the trumpet was loud so that all the people in the camp, they did, what they, they trembled and were trembled means to shake, to shutter, to be afraid or terrified. So in the presence of God came, they all freaked out. They were afraid. They were terrified. Is that a good response to the presence of God? Psalms chapter two verse 11 says this, serve the Lord with fear and rejoice with trembling.

I said, you’re always saying, don’t be afraid. Don’t have fear, but I’m going to propose to you today that we need to have the right kind of fear. There is a right kind of fear and a wrong kind of fear. And I’ll explain that to you. When the Bible says here to serve the Lord with fear, that’s not to be terrified of him, but to reverence him Psalm one 11 verse 10 says the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. A good understanding have all those who do his commandments, his praise endures forever. This word fear means in the Hebrew ready to fear

Means to be afraid. Also means reverence. So here’s what he’s saying. The fear of the Lord, the reverence of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. The beginning. In other words, if I don’t fear God, if I don’t honor, God is Lord of my life. I can’t even begin to enter the concept of wisdom. There is no true wisdom outside of the fear of God, the fool has said in his heart, there is no God. She’s like, well, I just want some more wisdom because a lot of times people do this. Am I going to believe God? Or am I going to use wisdom? Like those are two diametrically opposed issues. They are not trusting and believing God and doing what God says is the ultimate wisdom. The fear of the Lord, the fear of the Lord. So now did the people have the right kind of fear. Let’s go to Exodus. Chapter 20 flip over the page a little bit. Look at verse 18. This is, it says now all the people witnessed. So they, they saw, they scoped out the thunderings. The lightning flashes the sound of the trumpet and the mountain smoking. That’s pretty dramatic. This is God showing up.

How many of you enter, enter, enter a room like that with some thunderings and lightening flashes and the sound of the trumpet. You might have a good intro song that you come into, but I don’t know if you got any thunderings lightning flashed. I’ve seen some wrestlers comes into some pretty good stuff, but nobody like that. Ultimate warrior used to come in with some good smoke, but nothing on this. Sorry. I am way off track. I don’t know what I’m thinking about. Ultimate warrior. And when the people saw it, what happened when they saw the presence of God, they trembled again, shook with fear or fright and stood afar off. Then they said to Moses, remember, this is God’s showing up the one who wants to speak with them once to encounter them. They said to Moses, you speak with us and we will hear, but let not God speak with us. Lest we die.

Hear the of the people

Saying, Moses, you, you, you speak with us. We’ll talk to you. But we don’t want to hear from God. We’re afraid we’re going to die. When I was reading this and studying this this week, I felt like God showed me the beginning of the modern church. The NDB satisfied with the concept of a preacher. You go and hear from God for us, tell us what he says, and then we’ll do it. We’re afraid we’ll die if we hear from God. But look what Moses said in verse 20 and Moses said to the people do not fear for God has come to test you. And that his fear may be before you so that you may not sit down chat. I’m confused. You say, do not fear. Then you say I’m supposed to be, have fear, which is it. Is it fear or not to fear? That is the question.

The answer is yes. Both notice what it says. And Moses said to the people do not fear, but then God has come that you might have his fear. His fear may be before you, the words fear in both of those sentences is, is in one sentence rather than verses 19 or 20. It’s the same word for fear. So it’s not a different word that has a different meaning. It’s the exact same word. The differences in the application. Here’s the application I want to share with you. Fear his fear versus our fears. Our fears cause us to withdrawal. His fear on us, causes us to draw near our fears, caused me to step back because I’m afraid. I’m not sure about this encounter in this interaction. I’m not sure what it’s going to do, but when his fear, my reverence of him, my trust of him, it causes me to draw near when I don’t trust God with an encounter, I will draw back to protect myself.

But when I trust him, then I will draw near. Even if I don’t know how this interaction is going to turn out. Yeah, go ahead, go ahead. I want to read this. So look at verse 21. It reminds me of this. I don’t want to forget to fill this in. You remember in Genesis chapter three, when Adam and Eve sinned and eaten the fruit, what happened after they ate it? I’ll read it to you. If you turn there and look at it in Genesis chapter three, verse eight, they heard the sound of the Lord, God walking in the garden in the cool of the day and Adam and his wife hid from the presence of the Lord, God, among the trees of the garden. Then the Lord, God called to Adam and said to him, where are you? So God said, so he said, I heard your voice.

Adam said, I heard your voice in the garden. And I was afraid because I was naked. And I hid myself. I was afraid that word afraid is the same word for fear used right here. When it says fear, the, his fear being on your life. So Adam had the right word, but he had the wrong application. In other words, he made it about himself instead of about God, this is God reminding us that when we fail, when we fall, when we mess up, we don’t draw back from God. We run to God. When you make your worst, here’s, here’s what happens. And maybe it’s not the same for you, but this is how it works for me. The enemy wants to tempt me to do something. That’s not what God wants me to do. So it keeps enticing, enticing, enticing, keep laying it out there.

Do this, say it, go ahead. Just say it, let it go, come on, say it, do it, Buddha, whatever. And then as soon as you do it, bam that he starts beating you over the head with it. How dare you? How could you you’re worthless Christian. You don’t deserve to serve God. How could you write in that? How it works. So then what happens when we get in sin and we focus on our sin, we begin to draw back and we hide ourselves thinking I don’t deserve to come to church today because I haven’t been good. How many people don’t engage in worship because they don’t think they’re deserving. Well, I just, I can’t go. I’ve been terrible. You don’t know what I did last night, I failed. I failed miserably. So I need to go, what are you going to do? Stay out of church until you get good. That’s not the gospel. It’s not about us. It’s about him. It’s about Jesus. We’re running away from the very thing that’s going to help us. We think we’re going to help ourselves. It’s not going to make a difference. So God’s saying, listen, have a fear of me and draw near, draw near and don’t run away. Look. Now we can look at verse 21. It says, so the people stood a far off, but Moses drew near the thick darkness for God was

[inaudible].

Here’s what God’s speaking to me about the church. He’s asking us if we’re willing to pursue something different. If you experienced the presence of God, what’s happened too many times in the churches, they created a model around something that was comfortable for them. Not necessarily comfortable for God, because when God shows up on the scene, it’s not always going to fit our comfort zone. I found this over 15 years of pastoring, this church, and for 23 years of preaching that, uh, it’s ease. There’s a subtle thing that can take place because there’s a, there’s a genuine deal about worrying about people and, and being mindful of people and wanting people to enjoy and experience God, enjoy church and come and, and be here. So you want to create something that people want to come to and be good for them and want them to like it and all that. And that’s not, there’s nothing wrong to that to a certain degree. But if you’re not careful for awhile, you start focusing so much on making sure all of them come that you forget to worry about. If he come,

Yes,

You can create an atmosphere. That’s comfortable for people, but uncomfortable for God. I’d rather have a place that’s uncomfortable a little bit for people, but it’s comfortable for God. He’s like, Oh, this is my kind of flow. This is where I want to be. I want to hang out because when God shows up, even with it comes, cause sometimes when he comes in funding and lightenings and smoke, it’s easy to go. Whoa, that’s a little extra. I don’t think. Cause he just imagine if you’re those people there at the mountain, seeing all this thunder and lightning and smoke and all the fire, you said, I just don’t think we need all that for God to show up. I don’t think you need to come with that much smoke. That’s a little excessive. I can understand a little thundering, but boom, boom, boom. I mean, come on, give a guy arrest. I mean, lightning flashing everywhere. That’s a little too much. How many times have we done that in church Said I’m okay with a little bit. But once it gets past my comfort zone, am I talking to anybody but me?

I know it’s a little bit,

But this is what God was saying. This was, this was the first church. And when the presence of God came, some of them said that’s too much, too much, too much, too much. So, so now jump over to Deuteronomy chapter four, I got to get somewhere in a hurry. I said four, five. You should have known that. Come on, get in the spirit. Deuteronomy chapter five, you got sermon notes. Come on. I can’t read my own numbers. Deuteronomy chapter five next to this numbers. Yeah. What is that? There it is fifth book of the Pentateuch, Deuteronomy chapter five, verse four. This is Moses telling the people. The Lord talked with you face to face on the mountain from the midst of the fire, uh, stood between the Lord and you at the time to declare to you the word of the Lord for you, afraid because of the afraid, because of the fire afraid of cause the fire do you know, fire can be something incredible and damaging all at the same time, we will build a fire in our house to make us warm and that same fire could build burn down our house, fire in the spot.

And our proximity to the fire in the right location creates a benefit. If I’m close to fire, it brings me warm. If I touch fire, it burns me. The fire of God in our life. When we apply it correctly, removes impurities and junk fears and sin off of our life. And it leaves purified the things that are of God.

But

You gotta be careful because that fire might burn something you don’t want to get rid of. Yet. I’ve been through a family where we’ve had a fire and I’ve been through a family. I’ve been, I’ve been in a family that had a fire. I’m not sure how you want to say that. In other words, we had a house burn down

[inaudible]

And I lost, I lost some things that I really hated to lose. But when the fire of God comes, there’s some things that you’re going to have to let go of because he promised you what’s left over, is going to be better. The fire of God, how come he always shows up in fire? How come it acts chapter two? When the Holy spirit came, it says flames of fire set upon each one of them. He comes to burn Mar God is a consuming fire. We’ll talk about that in just a minute. Verse 23 jumped there, Deuteronomy five 23. So it was, here’s what Moses says. When you heard the voice from the midst of the darkness, while the mountain was burning with fire, that you came near to me, all the heads of your tribes and your elders. And you said, surely the Lord, our God has shown us his glory and his greatness to sound awesome.

And we have heard his voice from the midst of the fire. And we’ve seen this day that God speaks with man. Yet. He still lives. Woo. This sounds like a celebration. I mean, we saw God’s glory in his greatness. We heard his voice. We have seen this day that God speaks with man that he still lips drop the mic cause should be a celebrating day, throw a party. Then you got verse 25. Now, therefore, why should we die for this great fire will consume us. If we hear the voice of the Lord, our God anymore, then we shall die.

Okay?

Look at this first 26. This is how crazy we are as humans, verse 26 for who is there of all flesh, who has heard the voice of the living. God speaking from the midst of the fire as we have and lived. Hello, you are verse 24. We have heard his voice from the midst of the fire. We have seen this day that God speaks with man. Yet. He still lives. Who among all flesh has heard the voice of living God speaking from the midst of fire and live. You have, they encountered and experienced something of God they never experienced before. And then they turned around and said, the thing that we never experienced before will actually destroy us. What was happening? It’s the challenge of pursuing a dynamic in your relationship with God, that’s unfamiliar to you, uncomfortable to you. You will have that choice where you will want to go back to what’s comfortable and familiar.

Even if it’s not what God wants for you, the new way may consume you. Yes, that’s the point. It’s going to consume the parts of us. That’s holding us back, but we want to hold onto our familiar blankies and they don’t take this away. I’m so comfortable here and bring it over here. I’m afraid it’s going to get burned up. Yes it is. And God’s going to give you something better in exchange, but they chose the blanking. Look what they said in verse 27. This is so powerful. This is, this is the church too many times. You go near and hear all that the Lord, our God may say and tell us all that the Lord, our God says to you, and we will hear and do it’s you go near, you go near Moses. We saw this fire and the glory and the greatness of God. And we heard his voice in the midst of the fire. And here’s what we’ve decided. We’d like to establish the church. Moses is the first pastor. We’d like to establish the church where you go near to God, go up to your little mountain, hear from God, get whatever he says, you bring it down to us. You tell us by golly, we’ll do it.

This sound familiar. God is saying to us, he wants more than that for you. He wants more than that. For me, too many people have gotten used to being the one that goes up to the mountain and getting the word. And pretty soon it doesn’t become about the mountain. It becomes about the messenger on the platform. Things get twisted. And I want to tell you flat out, you need to hear from God. So what I want in the time we have remaining is to tell you my heart for where we’re going as a church, I want, this is something that our leaders, our pastors were praying. And we were in unity for this. We want the fire of God. We want the presence of God, no matter what it costs. As far as crowd or people, I want the one. And then let him take care of how many people come to watch us burn.

I’m not doing it for a it’s comes at a risk. I realized there’s risk of comfort and discomfort and all that. But I’m just saying, when we say we want the fire of God and the presence of God, we want him to show up. I don’t want you to be satisfied in your personal walk with God to say, man, that Chet, he can give me a good sermon. I’m going to do the best I can to hear from God, for you and relate to you. What he’s saying to me. I promise you. I’m going to do that every chance I get, but I’m want you to go further. And I want you to have your own encounter with him. I want you to meet with him tomorrow morning. I want you to meet with him every day and find out what he’s saying to you that he may not be saying to me because I’m not living your life. I’m not in your situation.

And he may have a word for you. That’s not going to come from me. And we’re used to this. We just come on Sundays, get a word. Then we turn and we go to do I come to here and I go to do I come to here and I go to do, and we need an encounter. We need an encounter. That’s more than just hearing and doing. It’s something that burns in our hearts. It’s something that burns up blankies in our life and security blankets that Lord, I want it all. I want more. I want more than just religion. I want more than just the church service. I love the church. I want the church, but I’m just saying God is wanting to encounter us in a personal way. This started to happen just a couple of weeks ago in a staff meeting, we were just meeting something happened and God walked in the room.

I don’t know. That sounds cliche. I can’t describe it. We tried to explain it to each other. Try to explain it to people that weren’t in the room. But all that note was all of a sudden something changed in the room. And here’s how I knew it was him in confirmation was the reaction that immediate people fell on the floor and began to weep and repents. The fear of God came in the room, but it wasn’t like, wow, this is cool. It was Jesus. Jesus, Jesus, forgive us for we repent. We repent before you, or we want to, we want your glory. We want your greatness, Lord. We want your presence. And I’m telling you, God is stirring that in my heart. And it is coming. It is already stirring in this place that I’m telling you, it’s coming in greater degree and I want you to be ready because it’s going to come in smoke and thunderings and lightening to time.

And someone’s going to look at it and go, it’s going to be easy for you to go. I’m going to stand a far off and watch, but God says, draw near, draw near. Don’t stand up for up. Don’t push back and take comfort and familiarity and say, well, that’s a little too much smoke. That’s a little too much. It fits of the Lord. Just lean in and say, God, I don’t understand. Because Moses, it said here in Exodus, that Moses went into the darkness where God was. I want to be where God, I don’t want to say God, come bless our service. I want to say God, we want to give you a place where you can be you and do whatever you want to do. This is my heart.

So I want to just take a moment and pray here at The Roads Church. And I want us to invite the Holy spirit to come. That’s all I know to do. I didn’t have a great ending. I said, Lord, I don’t even know how to ended up getting ready to close it. So all I’m going to do is just say, Jesus, come, will you open your heart and encounter him? He wants to encounter you. Maybe you’re not familiar. Maybe you’ve just done church and sermons and songs. And you’ve never known to go any past that. That’s okay. I’ve been where you are. I’ve been a place where I wasn’t familiar with that. I wasn’t comfortable with that. It’s okay. I’m just asking you to open your heart to trust Jesus. Don’t trust people, but I believe there’s some more. And if you’re searching for more in your life, allow the fire of God to calm. I say, Holy spirit come in. Fire comes in. Every television sets come through. Every computer screens come there and Mount Carmel looks, burn us with fire. Look the fear of God on what you want to do. I’ll tell you the answer to the world’s problem. It’s not a better argument. It is a better demonstration of the power and glory of Jesus.

Could we humble ourselves and invite him to come with you hunger for more? Do you want something more? I got an F Mo I got to have his presence. I got to have, so had a dream that God had given him. And I believe it’s fits right in with where we are. Just begin to pray. You just open your heart to God and listen to what God’s saying. First off, I want to clarify. I don’t dream. Normally in the night I had this dream. I had a lot of things going on in my life and it just wasn’t for sure it wasn’t for me. But when I woke up, I couldn’t breathe. So I reached out to my dear friend, Susie, Susie, I need help because she’s pretty good at interpreting dreams, but I want you to listen to this words that there, the vision that I had that night, it started out on a Lake with a huge body of water. There was people on a boat, but I didn’t recognize anyone. Often the distance, it looked like there was a refinery type of operation.

And I was on a boat floating around with a bunch of concrete pillars. Then all of a sudden it was like an explosion at the refinery. You could see the smoke and the flames. And then the concrete pillars started to explode in the water. I said, I’ve seen this before. And we have to get out of here. Who was, whoever was driving the boat through the boat and reverse and started backing away from the exploding pillars. And I started, we started down this huge spillway. There was stuff getting swept away because of the amount of water as the boat continued to back up, it was going down this very steep and long slide. As we set it in the boat, the waterfall was flowing so hard. You couldn’t inhale until about halfway down. And I can only do it by turning my head like a swimmer. Does the boat made it to the bottom? And it floated out into what a canal that looked like you would picture in Italy. There was houses, restaurants, and music’s playing in the evening.

One of the things that we interpreted out of this dream is, is that as the word of the pastor Chad gotten today, and as I said, I was sitting here this morning. I had no, I had totally forgotten about this dream. And God reminded me this morning, the exploding pillars life, as we see it in this church, God is getting ready to change. He’s breaking down the pillars that we have built in as a normal church, the flood, the waterfall is God’s flowing of the Holy spirit. And so when he, if you feel like you’re starting to panic because you can’t breathe, God says that’s the flow of the Holy spirit that I am providing. Don’t panic because we’re, we’re going as a church where we’re going as a body is a beautiful plan that he has for us.

Can we just pray in agreement right here? My goal is one of the leaders here is to help you develop and grow in your own relationship and your ability to go to your own mountain and hear the voice of God. I’ll do the best I can to help and disciple and grow you. But ultimately our goal is to point you to Jesus, tune your ear to the mountain and hear the voice coming from the midst of the fire. Will you lay your body, your life on the alter and allow the fire to come see God consumed my fears, my insecurities, all my Blakeys, all the familiarity that I’m holding on to. That’s holding me back that I’m willing to just flip free, set free and go and trust you. Lord, take a leap of faith and say, God, I want you more than I want anything else. Either. God is real either. Jesus is real. The Holy spirit is real. Let’s pack up and head home. This is either real. It’s going to change the world or it’s just another club of people trying to gather together and do a little good deed here or there. There’s a fire of God that wants to consume our life and shake up the world. It starts in our own life. It’s not something that they will do that we watch and stand before off, but we draw near. We draw near and say more. Jesus, I want more.

I’m not satisfied. Just knowing about you and singing songs about you below it. I want you to be in me, burning like a fire set up in my bones. Lord. I want to see your beautiful face. I want to talk with you. I want to hear your voice. I want to hear your affirmation. I want to hear your love and your joy and your peace to the boys, to the boys. Some right now we’re afraid because of sin. It’s caused you to draw back cause you to draw back and stand a far off and say, well, when I get my life together, when I get my life straightened out, then, then I’ll press in. Then they don’t come to God. No, right now, right now you lean into God, right? Where you are. You can come to him just as you are.

Don’t wait till you feel more spiritual, feel more deserving, more worthy. It’s not about that. It’s not about how much we deserve. It’s about him coming to us. He wants to come to you. He wants to encounter you right now. Just open your heart. We just say together, Jesus bring fire to the roads, church. God, we want to see your glory. We want to see your glory. May we not be like the children of Israel who saw the glory of the greatness of God heard his voice, saw the midst of the fire and then turned away. It said, no.

They said, we don’t want that. We’ll be satisfied with you. Moses going and hearing from God and you tell us, and we will do. We’re satisfied in just doing. We don’t want to be uncomfortable. We don’t want to get outside of ours or zones where we’re familiar with. We just want to do for him. We don’t necessarily want to hear from him and having him get counter us. We don’t want to experience him. We just want to do for him. And God is saying my heart is to pour myself into you. That’s the best thing that could ever happen to you.

I want to give some words of knowledge. I feel like just this God’s presence is here. If this is you, I want you to receive healing right now. Maybe we’ve given. If I don’t even give a word of knowledge for it right now in the presence of God, I want you to experience him. God’s going to do some things just by him being here. Someone dealing with a torn ligament right now, we just pray healing over that in the name of Jesus, somewhat displaced, right? Elbow displaced, right elbow, some of the sharp pain right in the center of your chest. God is pretty healing over that. In Jesus name, someone named Amanda, your prayer has been heard, and the answer is on its way. Be encouraged, be encouraged for Robert. The darkness is lifting and a new day is breaking in your life.

A new day is breaking forth. Robert, someone named Cynthia just got the name. Cynthia, you got it. Come on, let’s get this mic. This was his word. Now he’s got, got it, got a specific word for someone named Cynthia. And the word is the Holy spirit has been wooing you and drawing you to the Lord. But you have been afraid to say yes, because you don’t know where it’s going to take you. And that has made you fearful of that surrender. And the Lord is saying, trust me, Jesus, Jesus. So good. So good. Can we just stand in the presence of the Lord? This holds your place as it’s not a dismissal yet. Soldier, places, if you’re kneeling and praying, please continue to do so.

I know smoke and lightening and thunderings sounds a little ominous. It did to the children of Israel, but I’m hungry for something more, not just for myself, but for you. The best part about it. As God wants to encounter us more than we want to encounter him. Father, I thank you for healing right now in Jesus. Name lymphoma be healed in the name of Jesus. Thank you Lord, for the power of your glory and your presence. Someone dealing with anorexia right now in Jesus’ name, Lord, I praise you in their mind being transformed by the renewing of their mind, that that lie from the enemy. Be broken in Jesus’ name. Thank you, Lord. Thank you, Lord.

Some of deal with the effects of lupus, I just praise you for healing and restoration in their body. And she’s a snake come Holy spirit in your power and your glory. Someone was injured doing, making repairs at your house. I know what it was. You were making some repairs and there’s an injury, uh, that you’ve had specifically making some kind of repair recently and God’s willing to heal you. So just receive enough from me, but just receive it from him. If he’s called you out right now, just receive that he wants to encounter you. He wants to encounter you. Jesus. We bless what you’re doing. We just say more, more, Holy spirit. I pray for the fire from the fire summit. Uh, someone who is a, um, it’s like a fire shield, like a fireman would have. And I feel like there was some that some, that it could be a number of people, but I just took that shield away. If that shield was hurt, was insecurities, fear of failure, fear of the unknown. And I saw you taking that shield away where the fire of God could come into your life. He loves you. He loves you. He loves you. He’s wanting to consume all those things that you thought you could never get rid of. When the fire comes, he’s going to consume all of that more Lord, more of your presence right now in Jesus’ name, fire set on our lives. Purify us. Jesus.

Thank you, Lord. Thank you, Lord. Thank you, Lord. I’m going to turn Mount Carmel over to her, to the service hosts there in Mount Carmel for you guys to go ahead and take the remainder of that service Jesus church. I want you to hear my heart on this. Not that I don’t want them to hear my heart, but they just don’t time. They need to close up. I can’t express to you what I feel. If I could, if I could take what’s on the inside of me and show it to you, it probably be a whole lot better than that message was need him. My body.

I need more than songs in a sermon. I need more. If he’s asking me if I will burn for him and I say, God, lighter fluid. I want to burn. Not emotion, not hype the person. It’s not a feeling because the feeling of wear off by the time I get to the car, learning is a choice inside of you, who you devote your life to. I give you my life. My heart had got to fit Kilz. You are the resurrection of the line. So as I’m leading, I just want you to know where we’re going and who you’re hooked up with because I want you to know, yeah, you need him in your life, in your marriage with your kids. You need him. You need that fire in your oxygen. You church gets so normal and you can do a check the box I’m in, I’m out, boom, by the being. But when the fire sits in your heart, everything. So I don’t say it to scare you with fundraising like smoking. And I want you to know there’s something burning in your heart right now. And it’s a desire for God. So I encourage you. There’s a time in my life was like, Ooh, those people are crazy. I was, I wouldn’t be sitting right back over there. Not the people sat in the back or back. Cause that was Bobby sitting back there going, I’ll just watch and see

And you can sit wherever you want to set. I’m not concerned about that, but I’m just saying in your heart, I want you to draw near. I want you to go from here and draw near Tron near because he loves you. And if you’ll let him touch your life, religion will never satisfy you again. He’ll never do it. You’ll be like it’s okay, but I wants more. I want more of him. And one more of him. He’s so good. You’re so good. You are beautiful. You’re wonderful. You are Jesus. We magnify you, Lord. We glorify you. We give you all the praise we give you all the honor. Lord, be lifted up in this place. We give you the highest place. Lord, highest praise, Lord. I lay out the welcome mat for you on this day, April 11th, 2021, I’d say, God, let your fire fall in this place that had filed fall in our hopes that had fallen in our workplaces.

That our school, God, we want you wherever we go. Let me be a temple of the living. God walking around with a fire, ready to be released wherever we go. We praise you and we love you in Jesus’ day. Amen. Amen. Listen, I love you all. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. If you want prayer, if you need prayer, if you want more of God come up, we’re going to stay and we’re going to lay hands on people. Whoever would like to, if you need to go, we’re going to release you. Dismiss you. He wrote his family. You may already be gone, but I love you. Anyhow. Be blessed. You guys have a great rest of your day. We’ll see you soon next week at The Roads Church.
