The Roads Church
Introduction & Prayer
“I want to go back to what we’ve been talking about. I just can’t get past this. It’s where I am and what God’s speaking to me.”
At The Roads Church, we love our Bibles! Let’s open them together today to Genesis 1. Sermon notes are available on the YouVersion Bible App and the Roads Church App. These tools—along with study guides—are designed to help you apply the message in small groups, at home, or with your kids. Notetakers are world changers!
Opening Prayer:
“Father, I thank you for the privilege of opening your Word. I ask for clarity, revelation, and understanding—that your Word would not remain theory, but speak to our very spirits. Confirm your Word with signs following and draw people closer to you today. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
Read Your Bible—Not Just Religious Tradition
We’re going to dig deeper today into the principles of soil and seed. Pastor Chad challenges us to go beyond religious tradition and let Scripture shape our understanding.
“Don’t listen to what I say unless you read your Bible and back it up with Bible.”
As we navigate a world increasingly influenced by artificial intelligence and other voices, we must anchor our beliefs in the Word of God.
Two Characteristics of Seed
Let’s read Genesis 1:11–12 (NKJV):
“Then God said, ‘Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb that yields seed, and the fruit tree that yields fruit according to its kind, whose seed is in itself, on the earth’; and it was so. And the earth brought forth grass, the herb that yields seed according to its kind, and the tree that yields fruit whose seed is in itself according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.”
- The seed is in itself – Everything needed is already inside the seed.
- Seed produces after its own kind – You harvest what you plant.
You don’t have to see someone plant a seed to know what kind it was. All you have to do is wait for the fruit to grow. The fruit reveals the seed.
“You will know them by their fruits, not their intentions.”
Our Identity: Made in God’s Image
Genesis 1:26–27 teaches us that we were made in the image and likeness of God—not to be “pretty good people,” but to reflect His nature.
“God never puts an expectation on you that He hasn’t already equipped you for.”
This means we’re not working to become more godly from the outside in—we’re working from the inside out. God already put His nature in us.
Seed of Jesus in Us
“If seed produces after its own kind, and we’re to be like Jesus, then we need the seed of Jesus.”
Let’s look at Galatians 3:16:
“Now to Abraham and his Seed were the promises made. He does not say, ‘And to seeds,’ as of many, but as of one, ‘And to your Seed,’ who is Christ.”
Jesus is the Seed. Our hearts are the soil. When He comes into our lives, everything we need is already in that seed. Just like the oak tree is in the acorn, everything God has for us is packed inside the seed of Christ.
Revelation, Not Addition
“Our relationship with Jesus is not about addition. It’s about revelation.”
This means we’re not waiting for God to “add” things to us from the outside. We’re learning to reveal what’s already been planted inside of us.
When we live believing everything we need is outside of us, we chase after others for words, encouragement, and affirmation. But when we live from what’s already in us, we can:
- Encourage ourselves in the Lord
- Draw on the joy, peace, and wisdom already present
- Live as partakers of the divine nature
Transformed by the Truth
Romans 12:2 (NKJV) says:
“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind…”
Renewing our minds is how we reveal the truth already planted in us. God’s Word doesn’t just add information—it exposes lies and awakens what’s already been given through Christ.
“Lies limit us, truths transform us.”
Partakers of the Divine Nature
Let’s close with 2 Peter 1:2–4 (NKJV):
“Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness… that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature.”
- “Has given” – That’s past tense. He’s already given it.
- We partake of what’s already ours, not what we hope to someday earn.
“An apple tree doesn’t strive to produce apples—it does so because of its nature.”
When we partake of the divine nature through God’s promises and Word, we begin to naturally produce fruit: love, joy, peace, patience… not by striving, but by nature.
Final Thought & Challenge
“Once we know what is available to us, then we look the devil in the eye and say, ‘I don’t think so today.’”
Don’t live like you’re missing something. Everything you need is in the Seed. Begin each day by declaring:
“Jesus, I thank you that everything I need is already in me because You are in me. Reveal who You are in me today.”
