MAIN POINT #3

We talked about being in the right place/position with God.  Do you remember some ways we could be in the right place or position with God?  (allow your child to answer : prayer, praise and worship, reading the Bible, etc)  Being in the right place/position is one way we can overcome evil WITH good.  There is also another thing we must do as well.  We must USE good.  What do you think that means?  (allow your child to answer)  What kind of GOOD do you think we can use?  (allow your child to answer)  The GOOD is the WORD of God.  The words in the Bible.

In the book of Ephesians, Paul tells us that we have armor that we can put on against the enemy.  What is ARMOR? (allow your child to answer: metal covering to wear on the body for protection)  In Ephesians 6:13-17, he describes the armor we are to put on.  Can you name any of those pieces? (allow your child to answer: belt of truth, breastplate of righteousness, shoes of peace, shield of faith, helmet of salvation and the sword of the spirit)  One of the pieces of armor Paul mentions is a sword.  He calls it the sword of the Spirit.  In verse 17, the Bible says, “Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”  (NLT)  A sword is an instrument, a WEAPON that we USE.  This is the GOOD that we can USE to overcome evil.  We USE the GOOD WORD of God in the Bible as a WEAPON against the enemy.  Have you ever thought that we can use the words in the Bible as a WEAPON?  (allow your child to answer)

Here’s the deal with a weapon, though…We have to choose to USE it.  It doesn’t really do anything if we don’t choose to pick it up and USE it.  How can we USE the word of God as a WEAPON?  (allow your child to answer)  Can we make a basket if we don’t pick the ball up first and then shoot it into the hoop?  Can we hit the ball if we never choose to pick up the bat and swing it at the ball as it is being pitched?  Nope.  It’s the same thing with the SWORD of the Spirit, the WORD of God.  We have to choose to pick up the Bible, to read it, to get God’s word in our heart, mind and speak it out of our mouth.  Those things are so powerful and when we do those things, we are then USING our WEAPON, the word of God, against the enemy.  In Hebrews, the Bible says that the Word of God is ALIVE, POWERFUL, sharper than the sharpest two-edged SWORD.  The enemy can’t win against the true, alive, and powerful Words of God.  He can’t beat God and he can’t beat us when we USE God’s words.

Prayer

Jesus, we thank you for the Bible.  We thank you that the words written in the Bible are ALIVE and POWERFUL.  That they are sharper than the sharpest sword.  And, those words are not only for us to read, but to USE.  To USE as a WEAPON to beat the enemy.  Holy Spirit, help us to remember to USE the WORD of God at all times, for every time in our life.  And especially when we feel the enemy is coming against us and trying to steal, kill or destroy the good that you give us.  We know that your Word says that you ARE GOOD and that ALL GOOD comes from You.  Thank you for being GOOD!  We love you, Jesus, and we pray all these things in your name, amen.
