Verse 16, so the disciples come to him privately and ask him the question. They said, why could we not cast it out? This is an incredible moment in scripture where the disciples had prayed for this boy and nothing had happened. I believe they prayed for him and ernest and prayed for him. Totally, sincerely, and the disciples had seen people healed prior to this. It’s not like it was their very first time and for some reason it just wasn’t able to happen here. It didn’t work here. So as any curious person would be as I would be, they went to Jesus and they asked him and said, Jesus, what’s up? Why? Why didn’t this work? Why didn’t this happen? Why? Why couldn’t we cast it out? This is a teaching moment for Jesus. They literally asked a question and Jesus answers their question, so we need to see what Jesus said. Very simple, very straightforward because of your unbelief. We prayed this person wasn’t cured. Why did it not work? He said, okay, that’s your question.

So I have to be hoping for some things in order to faith to come alongside if I’m hope less faith is not going to have much to work with. I got to be filled with hope. Let me read it to the amplified version. If you don’t have mustard seed faith, it won’t work for you. That’s what Jesus is answering that remember, this is a teaching moment and he’s giving them the nuts and bolts of why is this not working well? You need to have faith like a mustard seed. That’s great. Let’s tell her. Bye. We need faith like mustard seed. Now, what does that mean?
Well, you need mess mustard seed faith, brother. Great. What does that mean? Well, let me tell you what I believe. That means this. Hold your finger there. Go over to mark chapter four. I’m very inquisitive. I want to know details. He says, I need mustard seed faith. I want to know what mustard seed faith is. I want to see what it works like. Jesus had a teaching moment with the disciples and that’s what I’m going to have with you today is this break, open God’s word and see what God’s trying to tell us on how maybe we can figure out why some things aren’t working for us the way God intends for them to work. If I think what God I want God to do, I really get off focus and I start thinking about and meditating my problem instead of my solution. It represents the physical realm or the physical senses. What I can see, smell, hear, taste and touch. That’s what the world all the seeds of the earth that represents the physical realm stuff. Earth is always physical realm. Stuff in scripture, so says world’s system ideals, physical realm, all those seeds. All right? Then the mustard seed represents God’s word. What God says, God system, so now we’ve got to compare and contrast the mustard seed, God’s word, God’s way of looking at this situation and the world’s way of looking at this situation, and when I first begin to believe God and choose God’s way of handling this situation, at that point, what is God’s system or God’s way in comparison to everything else? It is smaller so we shouldn’t be discouraged or surprise when I’ve first choose to go God’s direction in comparison to everything else in my life. It may seem smaller. All the other options maybe. Maybe I’ve fought this way for so long and I’ve responded this way for so long and I’ve said this and I’ve done this so long that this is just a natural part of my life and God convicts me and says, Hey Chad, I want you to stop. Until the word is sown in me and remember how do we, so we saw it by speaking in meditating on it. Do do I want God’s word to come alive in me? It’s not gonna happen just because I want it to. If you’re going to grow something, you got to realize in that beginning stage you got to give it a lot of attention. Some of you put fertilizer on stuff, you’re taking care of it, your, your garden. That very carefully because in that beginning stage, before it grows up, it’s when the enemy wants to snatch it. I remember my dad planting a bunch of trees in our yard when I was a kid. Just a little fella
somewhere. I don’t remember where I was, but I was a little guy and these trees we had weren’t like the nice nursery trees that you plant trees that are banks. See ours were little little trees about like that and you know, they were just marked along the line and whenever I was I was running our big. See, the enemy wants to get things when they’re small, but if we’ll keep letting them grow, we’ll keep letting them grow in our heart. It’ll get brighter and once it gets greater, the devil can’t mow it over anymore.
Sea birds can eat seeds, but birds don’t eat trees. See, birds come and devour a little seeds, but they can’t devour a tree. That’s put up in my life. See, this becomes greater. See what happens in the birds of the air.
See what I’m first believing God and I’m using God’s system. At the beginning it doesn’t look like much and nobody likes it. Nobody agrees with it. They think, oh, that’s stupid. That’s silly, and birds of the air trying to bower that, but notice what it says, but after it grows up, it puts out large branches so that the birds of the air may nest under its shade. Here’s what I felt like God was speaking to me on that in this situation, those birds of the air represent the world and in the beginning, Best church for kids in Carmi Illinois God’s system, God’s way of doing things look silly,
but once it grows up and develops and everyone can see it, then they all want to reap the benefits of what God has done in my life. The Bible says, when the righteous rule, the people rejoice. It’s become mega in my heart. He says, when that happens, then the next part you will say to this mountain, move from here to there and it will move and nothing will be impossible to you. Notice what he said. If you have faith like a mustard seed, you will say, underline the word. Say, let’s look at that. The word say literally means to speak. Who will do the speaking? You will do the speaking. I will do the speaking. You will say to this mountain, what are we going to speak to?
We’re going to speak to the thing that’s blocking us. We’re going to speak to the thing that’s in our way. It’s gotten greater and so I’m speaking from a place of mustard seed faith, not a place from just what I want to happen. You see the difference. This is why Jesus was saying, Hey, if this isn’t working for you,
check and see if you’ve got mustard seed faith.
Well, what’s mustard seed? A mustard seed. Faith is when you read what I say about your situation and you meditate on it and you put it in your heart over and over and over until what I say dominates how you think and it becomes greater than what anything else you see, smell, hear, taste and touch. It goes greater than what the devil says because let me tell you, the devil will parade across in front of you all the physical evidence that what you’re believing for is not going to happen. I’m moved by what I believe. God’s word has become greater. God’s word has outgrown what you’re saying. I’m sorry I can’t hear what you’re saying. God’s Word is speaking too loud in my heart. I can’t hear what you’re saying anymore. I can’t hear how you’re hating on me anymore because God’s word of love has just overwhelmed me and I just can’t help but love you back. I just can’t help but forgive you because God’s love. It’s just speaking loud. It’s greater. We need to say move to the things that are keeping us where we are. We need to say move to feelings. We need to say move to intimate inhibitions. We need to say move to the lies of the enemy. I want us to pray. You will just bow your heads with me, so here’s what I’m asking God to do this morning.
Maybe your question, you’re asking God this morning is not how come I couldn’t cast out demons, but maybe it’s something else. The God, how come this isn’t changing? How come this is working? How come? Why is this not happening for me? It’s a very valid question. Common asked by all of us, don’t feel condemned by that question. Jesus did not rebuke them for asking the question. He began to convulse. So if you did it in front of Jesus, I’m sure he did it in front of the disciples. So when they saw him convulse, they saw this physical evidence and they thought men were praying and he still keeps doing it. The physical evidence became greater than what Jesus had told them. And so he said, this is why your faith did not bring you through. So what is your situation? Maybe it’s not that maybe has nothing to do. Think, think physical. Maybe it’s a relationship. I pray that what you have spoken into their heart will begin to rise up and rolling. I pray, Lord, the words that you’ve spoken to them will begin to grow where the enemy has tried to bring you fear, tried to bring you intimidation, tried to bring back you into a corner trying to bring you a lack of self worth to say you’re nothing. You’re good for nothing.
