In Spiritual Authority: Sons & Daughters | One in Christ, Pastor Chad Everett continues through Galatians 3:28–29 and shows how our identity in Jesus changes the way we see one another, our place in the body of Christ, and the inheritance we receive as God’s children. Being one in Christ means Jesus becomes greater than the distinctions that so easily separate us.

One in Christ Means We Belong Together

Galatians 3:28 declares that there is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, “for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” These differences do not determine our value, access to God, or place in His family.

Race, ethnicity, nationality, economic status, and gender can become reasons people separate themselves from one another. Jesus calls His people to something different. Instead of tearing another person down to establish our own value, we can support one another and recognize the equal value of every son and daughter of God.

This truth also challenges division within the Church. Romans 12 describes believers as many members with different functions who together form one body. Different backgrounds, churches, traditions, and perspectives do not have to become reasons for separation when Jesus remains at the center.

One Body With Different Functions

Being one in Christ does not mean everyone becomes the same. Romans 12:4–5 says that the members of a body have different functions while remaining part of one body.

God designed His family with different people, gifts, and functions. Rather than competing for position or comparing ourselves with others, we can recognize that we belong to one another. Church becomes more than an event we attend with people sitting around us. God calls us into a family where relationships form, people strengthen one another, and each member contributes to the health of the body.

Living this way requires us to resist the tendency to separate ourselves into smaller groups based only on preference or similarity. Unity grows when we see other believers first through their relationship with Christ.

Sons and Daughters Are Heirs

Galatians 3:29 takes the message from belonging to inheritance: “And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.”

Chad traces the promised Seed from Galatians 3:16 back to Genesis 3:15. That Seed is Jesus, the One who came to crush the enemy. Romans 16:20 then declares that the God of peace will crush Satan under the feet of His people.

Spiritual authority does not come from trying to create our own victory. Jesus has already won. As sons and daughters, we take our position in Christ and enforce what He has accomplished rather than trying to defeat the enemy through our own strength.

Stop Living Like an Outsider

Romans 8:14–17 brings the message back to our relationship with the Father. Through the Spirit of adoption, we cry, “Abba, Father.” Scripture says that if we are children, we are also heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ.

Still, believers can approach God as though they must continually earn their way back into His presence. Failure can send us into shame, where we try to clean ourselves up before coming close to Jesus again.

The gospel gives us another way. We turn toward our Father because our relationship with Him rests on what Jesus has done, not on our ability to perform perfectly.

Psalm 103 tells us not to forget His benefits—His forgiveness, healing, redemption, lovingkindness, and mercy. We receive because God has chosen to make these things available through Christ.

Live as One in Christ

God has not called His sons and daughters to live isolated, divided, competing, or continually trying to prove their worth. He has brought us together in Jesus.

Knowing that we are one in Christ changes how we see the Church, how we treat one another, and how we approach our Father. It reminds us that we belong to one body, share in Christ’s victory, and receive an inheritance we did not earn for ourselves.

Choose unity over division. See other believers as members of the same family. Stand in the victory Jesus has already won. Come to God as your Father and receive what He has provided.

We are sons and daughters. Together we are one body. Through Jesus, we are heirs according to the promise.

We are one in Christ.
