SPIRITUAL AUTHORITY β RESTORED IN CHRIST
Filled, Sent, and Accountable
Based on the message by Chad Everett
π OVERVIEW
This week we learned something important:
Jesus was filled with the Holy Spirit.
Jesus was sent with power and authority.
Jesus gives His followers a job to do.
And one day, we will give an account for how we obeyed Him.
We are not filled with a feeling.
We are filled with Godβs Spirit.
That means we donβt have to be afraid or weak.
We can listen, obey, and trust Him.
π± SECTION 1 β FILLED, NOT A FEELING
(Adult Guide: Section 1)
READ: Luke 4: 1, Romans 8: 11, Acts 1: 8
WHAT DO YOU THINK?
- What happened to Jesus before He started His ministry?
If Jesus was filled and led by the Spirit, what does that show us about how we should live? - Who lives inside someone who follows Jesus?
If the same Spirit who raised Jesus from the dead lives in you, what does that mean about Godβs power in you? - What happens when the Holy Spirit comes upon believers?
If God gives power to help us be witnesses, what is that power for?
π‘ Big Idea: Godβs Spirit lives in us to help us live boldly and tell others about Jesus.
π± SECTION 2 β SENT WITH AUTHORITY
(Adult Guide: Section 2)
READ: Luke 9: 1β2, Matthew 28: 18β20
WHAT DO YOU THINK?
- What did Jesus give His disciples?
If Jesus gave them power and authority, were they supposed to be afraid or confident? - What did Jesus send them out to do?
What does that show us about what Godβs Kingdom looks like? - Why does Jesus tell us to go and make disciples?
If all authority belongs to Jesus, what does that mean for people who follow Him?
π‘ Big Idea: Jesus sends us out with His authority to help others and share the good news.
π± SECTION 3 β THE KINGDOM HAS COME NEAR
(Adult Guide: Section 3)
READ: Luke 10: 8β9, Luke 10: 17β20
WHAT DO YOU THINK?
- Why did the disciples say, βThe Kingdom of God has come nearβ?
What happens when someone who follows Jesus walks into a place? - What authority did Jesus say He gave them?
If Jesus gives authority over the enemy, should we be afraid of spiritual opposition? - What did Jesus say should make us happiest?
Is it more important to do powerful things, or to belong to Jesus?
π‘ Big Idea: Our greatest joy is that we belong to Jesus β not just what we can do.
π± SECTION 4 β STAY FOCUSED ON THE MISSION
(Adult Guide: Section 4)
READ: Matthew 24: 4β14
WHAT DO YOU THINK?
- What did Jesus warn would happen in the last days?
How could those things make people distracted or confused? - What must happen before the end comes?
What does that tell us about the Churchβs main job? - What kinds of distractions could pull us away from sharing the gospel?
How can we stay focused on what matters most?
π‘ Big Idea: Our job is to share the good news, not get distracted.
π± SECTION 5 β WE WILL GIVE AN ACCOUNT
(Adult Guide: Section 5)
READ: Matthew 25: 14β19, Romans 14: 11β12
WHAT DO YOU THINK?
- What did the master do when he came back?
Why do you think he wanted to see what his servants had done? - Who will give an account to God?
What does that mean for how we live each day? - What has God given you (kindness, courage, gifts, opportunities)?
How can you use what God gave you this week?
π‘ Big Idea: God gives us gifts and expects us to use them.
π PRACTICE FOR THE WEEK
Live Filled, Sent, and Ready
STEP 1 β Ask
βHoly Spirit, where are You sending me this week?β
STEP 2 β Say
βI am filled with Godβs Spirit. Jesus sends me. I can obey.β
STEP 3 β Do One Spirit-Led Thing
Listen first. Then obey.
Maybe:
β’ Pray for a friend
β’ Share something about Jesus
β’ Be brave
β’ Tell the truth
β’ Show kindness first
STEP 4 β Think
If I had to tell Jesus about my week, would I be proud of how I obeyed?
Draw a simple map of your week.
Write or draw the places you go (school, practice, store, home, church).
Now circle one place and write: βJesus is sending me here.β
Under it, write one thing you could do there:
β’ Pray
β’ Encourage
β’ Tell the truth
β’ Share Jesus
β’ Help someone
