Print Family Study Guide

Based on the message by Justin Younger

WELCOME, FAMILIES!

This week, your family will learn how Jesus doesn’t just forgive us—He changes who we are and teaches us how to live free.

Sin is when we think, say, or do something that goes against God’s way and pulls us away from Him.

Justin taught that when sin is removed, it leaves a space that must be filled.

God fills that space with His Word and His presence as we walk with Him every day.

As a family, you will:

  • Read God’s Word
  • Talk about what it means
  • Respond together in prayer

So grab your Bibles, gather together, and let’s grow together.

⛏️ DIG 1 —
JESUS GIVES US A NEW IDENTITY

READ

2 Corinthians 5: 17 and Romans 6: 6–7

ASK YOUR CHILDREN

  • What does the Bible say happens when someone follows Jesus?
  • Are we still the same, or are we made new?
  • Does Jesus call us sinners, or sons and daughters?

Say this truth together: “In Jesus, we are made new.”

REFLECT

Help your kids understand:
When we follow Jesus, He forgives us and changes who we are. We don’t live the old way anymore.

Ask:

  • What are some old ways Jesus helps us leave behind?
  • What new ways does Jesus teach us to live?

RESPOND — FAMILY PRAYER

Pray together (parents can guide):

“Jesus, thank You for making us new.
Thank You that we are Your sons and daughters.
Help us live like who You say we are.
We want to follow You.”

⛏️ DIG 2 —
GOD REMOVES SIN, BUT HE ALSO FILLS US

READ

Matthew 12: 43–45 and John 15: 4

ASK YOUR CHILDREN

  • What happens if a house is empty?
  • Does Jesus want our hearts to stay empty?
  • Who fills our hearts when we stay close to Jesus?

Say this truth together: “Jesus fills our hearts.”

REFLECT

Help your kids understand:
When Jesus removes sin, He doesn’t leave us empty. He wants us to stay close to Him so His life grows in us.

Ask:

  • What happens when we forget to spend time with Jesus?
  • What helps you feel close to Him?

RESPOND — FAMILY PRAYER

Pray together:

“Jesus, thank You for taking away what doesn’t belong in us.
Please fill our hearts with You.
Help us stay close to You every day.”

⛏️ DIG 3 —
GOD’S WORD IS THE SEED WE PLANT

READ

Luke 8: 11 and Psalm 119: 105

ASK YOUR CHILDREN

  • What does Jesus say the Word of God is like?
  • Where do we plant seeds?
  • What happens when we plant good seeds?

Say this truth together: “God’s Word helps us grow.”

REFLECT

Help your kids understand:

God’s Word is like a seed. When we put it in our hearts, it grows and helps us make good choices.

Ask:

  • What Bible verse helps you when you’re scared or upset?
  • How does God’s Word help us know what to do?

RESPOND — FAMILY PRAYER

Pray together (parents can guide):

“God, thank You for Your Word.
Help us plant Your Word in our hearts.
Help it grow in us so we can live Your way.”

⛏️ DIG 4 —
CONVICTION HELPS US GROW CLOSER TO JESUS

READ

John 16: 8 and Romans 8: 1

ASK YOUR CHILDREN

  • Who helps us know when something isn’t right?
  • Does the Holy Spirit come to shame us or help us?
  • What does God want us to do when we mess up?

Say this truth together: “God helps us choose what is right.”

REFLECT

Help your kids understand:
When the Holy Spirit shows us something we need to change, it’s because He loves us and wants to help us grow.

Ask:

  • How does it feel when someone helps you make a better choice?
  • Why is it good that God corrects us?

RESPOND — FAMILY PRAYER

Pray together:

“Holy Spirit, thank You for helping us.
When we make mistakes, help us turn back to Jesus.
We want to grow closer to You.”

⛏️ DIG 5 —
FOLLOWING JESUS IS NOT A SPECTATOR SPORT

READ

James 1: 22 and Luke 9: 23

ASK YOUR CHILDREN

  • Does Jesus want us to just listen, or to follow?
  • What does it mean to follow Jesus every day?
  • How can our family follow Jesus together?

Say this truth together: “We follow Jesus together.”

REFLECT

Help your kids understand:

Following Jesus means we don’t just watch—we live like Him every day at home, school, and church.

Ask:

  • What is one way our family can follow Jesus this week?
  • How can we help each other obey God?

RESPOND — FAMILY PRAYER

Pray together (parents can guide):

“Jesus, we want to follow You.
Help our family listen to You and obey You.
Teach us how to live Your way every day.”
