Based on the message by Pastor Chad Everett
👋 Welcome, Families!
This week, your family will learn how Jesus shows us to walk in spiritual authority by following God, speaking truth, and saying no to the devil.
Spiritual authority isn’t about being loud or powerful—it’s about trusting God, obeying Him, and moving forward when things are hard. As a family, you’ll read the Bible, talk about what it means, and practice responding to God together.
Each DIG will help your family:
📖 Read God’s Word
💬 Talk about what it means
🙏 Respond together
So grab your Bibles, gather close, and let’s DIG in. ⛏️
⛏️ DIG 1 — GOD TRAINS US TO BECOME
📖 READ
Matthew 28:19–20
Ask your children:
• Why do we go to church?
• Does God want us to stay the same or grow?
• Who helps us learn how to follow Jesus?
Say this simple truth together:
“God helps us grow and become more like Jesus.”
💬 REFLECT
Church is not just a place we go—it’s a place where God trains us to follow Him and help others follow Him too.
Ask:
• What is something God is helping you learn?
• Who helps you learn about Jesus at home and at church?
Remind them:
“God wants us to grow.”
🙏 RESPOND — FAMILY ACTIVITY
BECOMING TALK
Ask each family member to share:
• One thing they are learning about Jesus
• One way they want God to help them grow
Pray together:
“God, thank You for helping our family grow and follow You.”
⛏️ DIG 2 — FOLLOWING JESUS MEANS LISTENING
📖 READ
Luke 4: 1
Ask your children:
• Who was Jesus listening to?
• Who leads us when we follow Jesus?
• Is it important to listen to God?
Say this simple truth together:
“When we follow Jesus, we listen to God.”
💬 REFLECT
Jesus was filled with God’s Spirit and followed Him. When we listen to God, He helps us know what to do.
Ask:
• When is it hard to listen?
• Who helps you make good choices?
Remind them:
“God helps us when we listen.”
🙏 RESPOND — FAMILY ACTIVITY
FOLLOW THE LEADER
Choose one family member to be the leader. Everyone else follows exactly what they do.
Afterward ask:
• Was it easy or hard to follow?
• What happened when someone stopped paying attention?
Explain simply:
“Following Jesus means paying attention and listening to Him.”
Pray together:
“Jesus, help us listen and follow You.”
⛏️ DIG 3 — FASTING HELPS US SAY NO
📖 READ
Luke 4: 2
Ask your children:
• Was Jesus hungry?
• Did Jesus still obey God?
• Can God help us say no when something is hard?
Say this simple truth together:
“God helps us say no to ourselves and yes to Him.”
💬 REFLECT
Fasting is choosing God over what our body wants for a little while. It helps our hearts learn to follow God.
Ask:
• What does your body want sometimes?
• Who helps you make the right choice?
Remind them:
“God helps us choose Him.”
🙏 RESPOND — FAMILY ACTIVITY
CHOICE & PRAYER
Ask:
• “What is something you really enjoy?”
• “If you chose to pause that for a little while, what could you pray about instead?”
Say together:
“We choose Jesus.”
Pray together:
“God, help us choose You even when it’s hard.”
⛏️ DIG 4 — JESUS HELPS US ANSWER LIES WITH TRUTH
📖 READ
Luke 4: 3–4
Ask your children:
• Who tried to trick Jesus?
• What did Jesus say back?
• Where did Jesus get His answer?
Say this simple truth together:
“God’s Word helps us answer lies.”
💬 REFLECT
Sometimes thoughts come that are not from God. Jesus shows us how to answer lies with God’s truth.
Ask:
• How can you tell when something is not from God?
• Who helps you remember the truth?
Remind them:
“God’s Word is always true.”
🙏 RESPOND — FAMILY ACTIVITY
TRUTH ECHO
How to do it:
- A parent reads a statement out loud.
- If it is true, everyone says:
“That’s God’s truth!” - If it is not true, everyone says:
“That’s not from God!”
Read these aloud:
- “God loves me.”
• “God forgot about me.”
• “Jesus helps me choose what is right.”
• “I can’t do what God asks.”
• “God is with me when I’m scared.”
• “I’m alone and no one cares.”
Say together at the end:
“We listen to God’s truth.”
Pray together:
“Jesus, help us recognize lies and remember Your truth.”
⛏️ DIG 5 — SAYING NO TO THE DEVIL MAKES US STRONG
📖 READ
Luke 4: 8
Ask your children:
• Who tried to get Jesus to disobey God?
• Did Jesus listen to the devil or to God?
• What did Jesus say?
Say this simple truth together:
“We can say no to the devil and yes to God.”
💬 REFLECT
The devil tries to trick us, but Jesus gives us power to say no and keep moving forward.
Ask:
• How can you tell when something is not from God?
• Who helps you say no to the devil and yes to God?
Remind them:
“God helps us be strong.”
🙏 RESPOND — FAMILY ACTIVITY
SAY NO / SAY YES
Practice together:
• Parent: “Say no to the devil.”
• Family: “No, devil!”
