Print Family Study Guide

Welcome, Families!

This week, your family is digging into God’s Word together to learn what it means to live led by the Holy Spirit.

When we open the Bible as a family, we’re not just learning information—we’re learning how to follow Jesus every day.

Each DIG in this guide will help your family:
• Read God’s Word
• Reflect on what it means
• Respond with simple, meaningful activities

So grab your Bibles, gather your family, and let’s DIG in together.

⛏️ DIG 1 — JESUS FILLS US SO THE HOLY SPIRIT CAN LEAD US

READ

Luke 4: 1

Ask your children:

  • Who filled Jesus with the Holy Spirit?
  • Who led Jesus after He was filled?
  • Why do you think Jesus listened to the Holy Spirit?

Say this simple truth together: “Jesus fills us with the Holy Spirit so the Holy Spirit can lead us.”

REFLECT

Help your kids understand: Jesus did not live by His own strength. He trusted Father God and allowed the Holy Spirit to lead Him.

Ask:

  • Who helps us make good choices?
  • How does the Holy Spirit help us listen to God?

Remind them:  “Jesus gives us the Holy Spirit to help us every day.”

RESPOND — FAMILY ACTIVITY

LED OR REACTING?

Think about one moment today/this week when emotions were strong.

Ask:

  • “Was I being led by my feelings or by the Holy Spirit?”
  • “How can I tell the difference?”
  • “What can I do in order to be led by the Holy Spirit next time?”

Pray together: “Jesus, teach us to respond with Your Spirit, not just react with our feelings.”

⛏️ DIG 2 — WHAT FILLS US WILL LEAD US

READ

Romans 8: 14

Ask your children:

  • Who does the Bible say leads God’s children?
  • Can our feelings sometimes lead us the wrong way?
  • Who helps us choose what is right?

Say this simple truth together: “When the Holy Spirit fills us, He leads us.”

REFLECT

Help your kids understand: When the Holy Spirit fills our hearts, He helps us choose love, kindness, and obedience. When we let other things fill us, they can lead us the wrong way.

Ask:

  • What are good things to be full of?
  • What helps you choose kindness instead of anger?

Remind them:  “The Holy Spirit helps us follow Jesus.”

RESPOND — FAMILY ACTIVITY

FILL THE CUP

Place an empty cup where everyone can see it.

Ask:

  • “What kinds of things can fill our hearts during the day?”
  • “Which of those things help us follow Jesus?”
  • “Which of those things make it harder to do what is right?”

As each person answers, name one good thing to “pour” into the cup (love, patience, peace, kindness).

Explain together:  “When the Holy Spirit fills our hearts, there is less room for wrong choices and reactions.”

Then ask:

  • “What has been filling my heart lately?”
  • “What do I want the Holy Spirit to fill me with this week?”

Pray together:  “Holy Spirit, fill our hearts today and help us follow You.”

⛏️ DIG 3 — FATHER GOD MEETS US IN QUIET PLACES

READ

Luke 5: 16

Ask your children:

  • Where did Jesus go to pray?
  • Who was Jesus talking to when He prayed?
  • Where can we talk to Father God?

Say this simple truth together: “Father God meets us when we spend quiet time with Him.”

REFLECT

Help your kids understand:  Jesus often spent quiet time talking with Father God. Father God loves when we talk to Him and listen.

Ask:

  • When is a good time for you to pray?
  • What would you like to tell Father God?

Remind them:  “Father God loves to hear from us.”

RESPOND — FAMILY ACTIVITY

QUIET MINUTE

Sit quietly together for one minute.
Explain before you begin: “We’re being quiet to make space to listen to Father God.”

After the minute, ask:

  • “What was it like to be quiet?”
  • “Was it easy or hard to slow down?”
  • “Did anything come to mind while you were quiet?”

Then have each person share one thing they want to thank Father God for.

Pray together:  “Father God, thank You for being close to us and for listening when we talk to You.”

⛏️ DIG 4 — JESUS HELPS US WHEN THINGS ARE HARD

READ

Luke 4: 2

Ask your children:

  • Was Jesus’ time in the wilderness easy or hard?
  • Did Father God leave Jesus alone?
  • Who helps us when things feel hard?

Say this simple truth together: “Jesus stays with us, and the Holy Spirit gives us strength.”

REFLECT

Help your kids understand:
Hard times don’t mean God is far away. Jesus stays with us, and the Holy Spirit gives us strength to keep going.

Ask:

  • What is something hard you’ve faced?
  • Who helps you when you feel upset?

Remind them:  “Jesus is always with us.”

RESPOND — FAMILY ACTIVITY

JESUS WITH ME

Have each person finish this sentence out loud:

  • “When something is hard, I usually feel ______.”
  • “When something is hard, Jesus is with me by ______.”

Then ask:

  • “What does it look like to trust Jesus instead of just reacting?”

Pray together:  “Jesus, thank You for being with us when things are hard. Holy Spirit, help us remember You are helping us.”

🌟 WEEKLY FAMILY PRACTICE

Choose one practice to do together each day this week:

Morning Truth
Say together:
“Jesus fills us with the Holy Spirit, and the Holy Spirit leads us.”

Bedtime Prayer
“Father God, thank You for today.
Jesus, thank You for loving us.
Holy Spirit, lead us tomorrow.”

Listening Practice
Pause during the day and ask:
“Holy Spirit, what do You want us to do right now?”

Celebrate Obedience
When someone follows God’s leading, notice it and thank Jesus together.

Final Encouragement for Families

Father God desires relationship. Jesus has made the way. The Holy Spirit helps us walk it out.

As your family learns to listen to Father God, follow Jesus, and be led by the Holy Spirit, you are building a foundation of faith that will grow for a lifetime.
