A simple, interactive way for families with young children to grow in God’s Word together.

Print Study Guide

Welcome, Families!

This week, we’re continuing to DIG into God’s Word together!
When we open the Bible as a family, we’re not just reading stories—we’re discovering God’s truth and learning how He wants us to live every day.

God created families to grow together, ask questions together, and learn how to listen to His voice together. Every DIG in this guide will help your family:

  • Read God’s Word
  • Reflect on what it means
  • Respond with simple, fun activities

So grab your Bibles, gather your family, and let’s start digging for treasure! ⛏️

⛏️ DIG 1 — GOD GIVES AUTHORITY

READ

Read Genesis 1: 26–28 together.

Ask your children:

  • Who made people?
  • What job did God give people to do?
  • Did God give people authority before or after things went wrong?

Say this simple truth together:  “God gave people authority because He loves us and trusts us.”

REFLECT

Help your kids understand:

God didn’t create people to be scared or helpless. He gave them a job—to take care of what He made. Authority doesn’t mean being bossy; it means being responsible with what God gives us.

Ask:

  • How does it feel when someone trusts you with a job?
  • How do you think God feels when we do what He asks?

Remind them:  “God gives us authority to help us do what is right.”

RESPOND — FAMILY ACTIVITY

“YOU’VE GOT THE JOB!”

Give each child a simple responsibility during the week. If they already have “jobs” at home take a few minutes to talk about them, and how it might look if they didn’t do those jobs.

  • Feeding a pet
  • Helping set the table
  • Picking up toys

As they do it, say: “God gave you authority to help take care of things.”

Close together: “Thank You, God, for trusting us!”

⛏️ DIG 2 — JESUS CAME TO HELP US AGAIN

READ

Read John 1: 14 and 1 John 3: 8.

Explain simply:

  • Jesus came to earth as a real person.
  • Jesus came to fix what sin broke.
  • Jesus came to help us say no to the enemy.

Say together: “Jesus came to help us live God’s way.”

REFLECT

Help your kids understand:

When people chose the wrong voice, things became broken. God didn’t give up—He sent Jesus to help us again. Jesus shows us how to live, love, and obey God.

Ask:

  • Why do you think God sent Jesus?
  • How does Jesus help us make good choices?

Remind them: “Jesus helps us do what we can’t do on our own.”

RESPOND — FAMILY ACTIVITY

“DRAW THE RESCUE”

Give each child a piece of paper and crayons or markers.

Say:  “Draw a picture of Jesus helping someone.”

When they’re done, invite each child to explain their picture using one sentence:

  • “Jesus helps when ______.”

Say together:  “Jesus came to help us.”

⛏️ DIG 3 — WE CHOOSE WHO WE LISTEN TO

READ

Read Genesis 3: 1–6 and John 10: 4–5.

Explain in kid-friendly terms:

  • The serpent tried to trick Eve by talking.
  • Eve listened to the wrong voice.
  • Jesus says His people know His voice.

Say together: “We listen to God’s voice.”

REFLECT

Help your kids understand:

Not every thought or voice is from God. Some voices make us feel scared, angry, or mean. God’s voice always helps us love, forgive, and obey.

Ask:

  • How does God’s voice sound?
  • What does God never say?
  • What should we do when we hear a wrong voice?

Remind them: “God’s voice always helps us do good.”

RESPOND — FAMILY ACTIVITY

“WHICH PATH WILL YOU TAKE?”

Place two pieces of paper on the floor:

  • One labeled “God’s Way”
  • One labeled “Wrong Way”

Explain to your children:  “Every day, we get to choose which way we will go.”

Read each situation out loud and invite children to step toward the path they think matches God’s voice:

  • “Telling the truth, even when it’s hard”
  • “Being mean because you’re mad”
  • “Forgiving someone who hurt you”
  • “Listening when God tells you to stop”
  • “Doing whatever you want without caring”

After each choice, briefly ask:

  • “Why do you think that choice matches God’s voice?”

Say together: “We choose God’s way.”

⛏️ DIG 4 — WE CAN SAY NO TO WRONG CHOICES

READ

Read James 4: 7 and 2 Corinthians 10: 5

Explain simply:

  • We don’t have to listen to every thought.
  • God helps us say no to bad choices.
  • Saying no is part of our authority.

Say together: “With God’s help, I can say no to wrong choices.”

REFLECT

Help your kids understand:

Even when something feels hard, God helps us choose what is right. Authority means we don’t have to do everything we feel like doing.

Ask:

  • Is it always easy to make the right choice?
  • Who helps us when it’s hard?

Remind them: “God helps us choose what is right.”

RESPOND — FAMILY ACTIVITY

“CHOICE PRACTICE WITH TRUTH”

Explain to your children:

“Every day, we get chances to choose what is right. God helps us make those choices.”

Read one situation at a time. After each one, ask two questions:

Situations:

  • Sharing a toy
  • Saying sorry
  • Choosing kindness

For each situation, ask:

  1. “What would be the right choice here?”
  2. “How does Jesus help us choose that?”

Then say together after each scenario: “Jesus helps us choose what is right.”

🌟 WEEKLY FAMILY PRACTICE

Choose one practice to do together each day this week:

  1. Speak Truth Each Morning
    Say together:
“God helps us choose what is right.”
  2. Listen for God’s Voice
    Before bed, ask:
“What good choice did you make today?”
  1. Practice Saying No
Celebrate when someone chooses kindness, forgiveness, or obedience.
  2. Pray Together
    Simple prayer:
“God, help us listen to You and make good choices.”

Final Encouragement for Families

God did not create your family to struggle alone. He gave authority, sent Jesus to restore it, and walks with you every day. As you listen to God’s voice together, your family grows stronger—one choice at a time.
