Introduction
This message, “Legacy Builders – The Faithfulness of God Through the Years,” calls us to pause and look back at what God has done through the story of The Roads Church—beginning in a simple horse barn in 1984.
A small group of people, hungry for God and filled with faith, gathered there to pray. There were mismatched wooden pews, no air conditioning, and no grand plans—just hearts desperate for God’s presence.
Imagine being part of that small group. Imagine kneeling on that concrete floor, praying for souls to be saved, for families to be restored, and for God’s presence to fill this region. Those early prayers became the foundation of everything we see today—every Roads Church location, every baptism, every miracle, every “yes” to Jesus.
Now, we are standing in their answered prayers. And just as they built through prayer, faith, and generosity, God is calling us to build for those who will come next—to reach new towns, to sow into new generations, and to keep saying “yes” to His purpose.
This study is a time to remember, to give thanks, and to ask God how we can keep building on that foundation—so that, years from now, others will be standing in the answers to our prayers.
How to Use This Study
Work through each section slowly and prayerfully, and then at the end spend time praying into the vision
Each point includes four simple steps:
- Prompt – a question or thought to open conversation.
- Reflect – space for personal connection and sharing
- Discuss – conversation to build community and share revelation.
Use this for group discussion, family devotion, or personal reflection.
1. Remember: How It All Began
Scripture:
“Lift your eyes now and look from the place where you are…” — Genesis 13 : 14
Prompt:
When did you first come to The Roads Church, and what do you remember about that time? Who were some of the first people you met?
Reflect:
Think about how God has moved in your life since then. Who has poured into you, prayed for you, or walked with you—and who have you poured into, prayed for, or walked with? How have you seen His faithfulness unfold personally?
Discuss:
- Just as The Roads Church began with a few people saying “yes” to God, where have you said “yes” to God in ways that have shaped your story or someone else’s?
- How does remembering stir gratitude and vision for what’s next?
2. Built on Prayer
Scripture:
“The eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him.” — 2 Chronicles 16 : 9
Prompt:
The Roads Church began with prayer in a horse barn. Every location, every life changed, every miracle started there—in prayer.
- How do you think prayer shaped what the church became?
- Take time to share testimonies of answered prayer—personal or churchwide. Testimonies are one of the most powerful ways to remember and declare what God has done.
Reflect:
What does prayer look like at your Roads location and in your personal life—today?
What role do you believe prayer should play in the future of The Roads Church?
Discuss:
- How have you seen God answer prayers—personally or as part of our church family?
- What are some ways we can keep prayer at the center of everything we do as a church and as individuals?
- What prayers could we begin to sow now for future generations and future cities God may call us to?
3. Saved, Called, and Sent
Scripture:
“He has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace.” — 2 Timothy 1 : 9
Prompt:
We’re not just saved from something; we’re saved for something. What does that mean to you?
Reflect:
Think of one way God has called you to serve or share His purpose—whether in your family, your community, or through your Roads location.
Discuss:
- How do you see God using ordinary people to build His extraordinary Kingdom?
- What might it look like for you to say “yes” again to His purpose in this season?
4. Sowing for the Future
Scripture:
“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.” — Mark 10 : 45
Prompt:
From the beginning, The Roads Church has been built debt-free—every project completed by faith through generosity.
Reflect:
Why do you think God blesses that kind of faith and obedience? Read 2 Corinthians 9: 6–8 together. What stands out to you about the heart God looks for in giving?
Discuss:
- What does this passage show about why God loves cheerful, faith-filled giving?
- How has generosity—yours or someone else’s—impacted your life or your church?
- What could it look like for our giving to become a reflection of trust, not transaction?
5. Lift Your Eyes and Dream
Scripture:
“For all the land which you see I give to you and your descendants forever.” — Genesis 13 : 15
Prompt:
When you think about the vision to Connect People With Jesus From All Roads of Life, what part of that dream do you feel God inviting you to personally sow into—for your family, your location, and the generations to come?
Reflect:
What legacy of faith and obedience do you want to leave behind—for your children, your city, and those yet to know Jesus?
Discuss:
- How can we dream together with God for our locations, our families, and our region?
- What part might you play in helping future generations walk in what God is building now?
PRAY INTO THE VISION
Spend time asking the Lord how He wants to use your prayers, generosity, and obedience to sow into and build His legacy through The Roads Church.
Pray into each of these areas, asking Him to speak clearly, stir your faith, and show you how to respond.
- Prayer – Ask the Lord to show you how He’s inviting you to deepen your commitment to prayer: to pray like Jesus prayed, to carry God’s heart for people, and to build on the foundation that began in the horse barn.
- Generosity – Ask how He wants you to give and sow in this Vision Offering. Pray about how your time, treasure, and talent can become seed for the people and cities God is calling The Roads Church to reach.
- Legacy – Ask how He wants to use you to build something bigger than yourself/your Roads location—so that generations to come will find Jesus through what we build together.
Closing Declaration
“We are Legacy Builders.
We are the fruit of someone else’s prayers and generosity.
Now it’s our turn to build, to pray, and to give—so that others may know Jesus from all roads of life.”
