From the Sermon Series: Living Set Apart

The Only One Worthy is a powerful message from Blake Bradley at The Roads Church, drawing us into the awe-filled scene of Revelation 5. In this passage, the apostle John describes the throne room of heaven—filled with living creatures, elders, and the fire of God’s presence—where a mighty angel proclaims, “Who is worthy to open the scroll and break its seals?” The answer is both humbling and hope-filled: no one in heaven, on earth, or under the earth is worthy, except the Lamb who was slain.

Blake reminds us that the worthiness of Jesus is not only seen in His position in heaven, but also in His humility and sacrifice on earth. From John 19, we see Jesus beaten, crowned with thorns, and presented by Pilate with the words, “Behold the man,” unknowingly declaring the spotless Lamb of God. This Lamb alone is able to open the scroll and bring God’s redemptive plan to completion.

The message explores how covenant friendship with God is built through holy reverence and obedience. Psalm 25:14 promises that “the friendship of the Lord is for those who fear Him,” and John 15 records Jesus calling us friends if we keep His commands. Obedience positions us to hear God’s secret counsel.

Through the story of Abraham’s obedience in Genesis 22, we see that full surrender opens the way for God to reveal more of Himself—just as He revealed His name, Jehovah Jireh, to Abraham. The call to “walk worthy” from Ephesians 4 and to “be holy” from 1 Peter 1 challenges every believer to live in a way that reflects the Worthy One within us.

This message will stir your worship, deepen your surrender, and challenge you to live daily in light of the worthiness of Jesus. Download the accompanying 5-Day Study Guide to continue studying The Only One Worthy and apply it to your life, family, or group.
