Everything You Need Is in the Seed
Speaker: Pastor Chad Everett
Main Scriptures: Genesis 1:11–12, 1 Peter 1:23, Galatians 3:16, Colossians 1:27
The Principle of the Seed
Genesis 1:11–12 says,
“Then God said, ‘Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb that yields seed, and the fruit tree that yields fruit according to its kind, whose seed is in itself, on the earth’; and it was so.”
God created a powerful system: the seed is in itself, and it produces after its own kind. These are the two foundational truths we must understand to grasp the message:
- Everything you need is in the seed.
- The seed produces after its own kind.
This is true in the natural—and even more so in the spiritual. You don’t have to glue fruit onto a tree. It grows from what’s already in the seed.
Created to Be, Not Just to Do
When God created man, He formed us in His image and likeness (Genesis 1:26–27). Colossians 1:15 and Romans 8:29 confirm that Jesus is the image of the invisible God, and we were predestined to be conformed to His image.
We were created to be like God, not just to do for God.
“Your identity doesn’t come from what you do for God. Your identity comes from being created in the image of God.”
Before we were ever formed, we were created—spirit first, body second. That means your identity is rooted in the created part, not the formed part.
Seed, Soil, and Stages of Growth
Let’s go back to tomatoes. You plant a seed that looks nothing like the finished fruit. However, inside that seed is everything needed to produce the entire plant—and the fruit.
The process of growth includes:
- Germination
- Sprout
- Seedling
- Flower
- Fruit
- Mature plant
Each stage reveals more of what’s already in the seed. Here’s the truth: you are not lacking anything if Christ is in you. You may just be in an early stage of growth, but everything is already there.
What’s Growing Out of You?
When you’re born again, you are born of incorruptible seed—the Word of God, which is Jesus (1 Peter 1:23). Galatians 3:16 says that the seed is Christ. That means:
If Jesus is the seed planted in your heart, then everything you need is already in you.
Jesus doesn’t need to be glued onto your life. Instead, He needs to be revealed from within.
Stop waiting for God to give you peace from the outside. Peace is already in the seed. So are hope, joy, patience, and strength. The key is not trying to get it from heaven but letting it grow from within.
Reveal What’s Already Inside
Religion teaches us to ask for things:
“God, give me peace.”
“God, give me joy.”
“God, give me strength.”
Yet when Jesus is planted in our hearts, we don’t need to keep asking for more. We need to ask God to reveal what’s already been planted.
“We’re not asking God to give us more—we’re asking Him to reveal the more that’s already in us.”
Colossians 2:9–10 says,
“For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily; and you are complete in Him.”
That’s the heart of this message: Christ in you, the hope of glory (Colossians 1:27).
You’re in Process—But You’re Not Lacking
The devil loves to show you a snapshot of your current stage and say, “This is all you’ll ever be.” However, just because you’re in the seedling stage doesn’t mean you’re not a tomato plant.
You were a tomato plant in seed form. In the same way, you’re a son or daughter of God in Christ, even if you’re still sprouting.
“Everything you need is in the seed. Stay planted. Stay rooted. Stay connected to the vine.”
John 15 says that abiding in the vine is what allows the branch to bear fruit. You don’t have to force it. Instead, just stay connected to Jesus.
The River Is Already in You
John 4 and John 7 show us that when we drink from Jesus, a fountain of living water springs up from within us. It doesn’t come from the outside. It’s not an external hose—it’s an internal spring.
“Stop trying to drink from external hoses. Start releasing the internal fountain.”
Romans 8:11 reminds us that the Spirit of God who raised Jesus from the dead lives in us. That’s how we’re made alive. It’s how we grow. And how fruit is produced.
What Is Jesus Producing in You?
Jesus, as the incorruptible seed, only produces after His kind. He doesn’t produce anger, strife, or jealousy. Rather, He produces peace, joy, patience, and gentleness—the fruit of the Spirit.
The more we abide, the more we grow into His likeness.
“We’re not trying to become better versions of ourselves—we’re becoming more like Jesus.”
The Call: Plant the Seed or Stir the Fountain
At the end of the message, Pastor Chad gave two invitations:
- Plant the seed of Jesus in your heart.
If you haven’t made Him Lord of your life, today is the day. Let the incorruptible seed be planted, and let God grow something new in you. - Stir up the fountain within.
If you feel dry, distant, or discouraged, the rivers of living water are still there. Perhaps you need a fresh stirring of the Holy Spirit—a refreshing of what’s already planted.
Final Reminder
“Everything you need is in the seed.”
If Jesus is the seed, and He lives in you, then you lack nothing.
Just stay planted. Just stay connected. Just keep growing.
