This Week's Bible Lesson
Scroll through each of the three points of this week’s lesson from The Roads Kidz ministry. Feel free to cover the points throughout the week. You will also find a prayer for each lesson to help you and your children to prayerfully navigate through each point and retain what they’ve learned through a scripture memory verse. We’ve included a worship song video that is related to the week’s theme. We hope that you have fun as you and your children connect with one another, while you engage in connecting with Jesus.
We Will Overcome!
Scripture Summary: Numbers 13:1-3, 27-33
Parents: Begin by reading this summary. I encourage you to open your bible to Numbers 13 and place the summary inside your bible. We want our kiddos to know that this truly is the word of God, not just a story.
The Lord told Moses, “Send some men to explore and spy out the land of Canaan. I will give this land to you, the Israelites, which were God’s people. Send one leader from each of the 12 tribes.” So Moses obeyed the Lord’s command and sent out the 12 leaders while the rest of the people camped out in the desert. Moses told the people to look and see what the land was like, what the people were like, and for them to have courage.
The men went to spy out the land. When they came back to their camp, they told Moses, “We went to the land where you sent us. It is a land filled with many good things! Here is some of the fruit that grows there!” They brought back some fresh grapes from the vine. And they continued to say, “But the people living there are very powerful and strong. The cities are very large and there are guards protecting the city. We even saw some Anakites, Hittites, Jebusites, and Amorites.” Caleb, one of the leaders, told the people near Moses to be quiet. Then he said, “We should go up and take that land for ourselves. We can easily take that land.” But the other leaders that had gone to spy the land with him said, “We cannot fight those people! They are much stronger than we are.” So those men gave a report that made all the rest of the people sad. They said, “The land we saw was full of really strong people. They are strong enough to easily defeat anyone who goes there. We saw giants there too, the Nephilim. We felt like tiny little grasshoppers. Yes, we were like grasshoppers to them!”
Point # 1
WE NEED TO HAVE COURAGE
Point # 2
WE ARE OVERCOMERS
Point # 3
GOD IS FAITHFUL
GAME
“NO LET DOWN”
Everyone stands in a circle. Blow up a balloon and toss the balloon into the circle. Say: Don’t let the balloon fall to the floor. You may only tap at the balloon with your hands. No one is allowed to catch it. As the balloon goes from person to person, count until you reach 100 (maybe 10-20 for smaller children). If the balloon falls, start again, and continue counting where you left off. The game ends when the group reaches 100 (or less for age and/or ability).
After the game, ask: “Did the balloon ever get let down? How? How do we sometimes let other people down? Is it hard to keep promises that we make? Why or why not? Can you depend on people who don’t keep promises? The Bible says we can depend on God and that He keeps His promises.”
CREATIVE ACTIVITY
SUN CATCHER
You will need:
- an iron
- a towel (or two) to iron on
- paper plate
- wax paper
- permanent markers
- color tissue paper
- This is a parent-lead/guided activity.
Give child(ren) a small paper plate and a piece of wax paper larger than the plate. Have them trace the plate making a circle on their wax paper using a permanent marker. Have child(ren) tear pieces of the rainbow colored tissue paper and place them in the circle on the wax paper wherever they wish. They can make designs with the different colors or just scatter them around. Also, give them a small piece of paper that says, “God is faithful” to lay in their design. They may want to cut around the paper to give it ragged edges also.
Lay a folded towel or two on a table or floor. Place the wax paper with the tissue pieces on top of the towel. Place another piece of wax paper on top. This forms a sandwich with the tissue inside. Using a heated iron, press the wax paper, fusing the 2 pieces together. Have children cut on the circle and throw the excess wax paper in the trash.
Tape the sun catcher on a window to remind them of God’s faithfulness.
