The Immutability of God: He Never Changes
Immutability makes my lips move when ways that they normally don’t move. Immutability.
What does it mean Chad? Get to the point. It means it means unchanging. It means he doesn’t change. He doesn’t waiver. The immutability of his counsel. Counsel means his plans, purposes, and intentions. Immutability is a characteristic.
God, Mt. Carmel Illinois Church we need to get Jesus Christ the same yesterday, today and forever. He does not change. He is consistent. He’s wanting to show us something about the immutability of his counsel, his plans, and his purposes.
God’s Plans, Purposes and Intentions Never Change for You
God never changes his plans, purposes, and intentions for you. Jeremiah 29 11 says, I know the plans that I have for you says the Lord. I know the plans. Here’s the plans that I have for you. They are plans for good and not of disaster, to give you a future and a hope.
That’s his plan, purposes, and intention. It says the immutability of his counsel will never change. God’s plans for you and me is always to give us a future and a hope.
“Yeah, but Chad, what if I really screw up?” He’s still from that place of screw up Mt. Carmel Illinois Church, and has plans for a future and a hope. Even if that part of my life was not his plan, he still puts in place a plan to get me to future and hope from my screw up. He never changes.
He’s not like us. He never says, you made your bed. Now lay in it. You deserve it. He never says that. Mt. Carmel Illinois Church we say that. He doesn’t say that.
He says, how’d you get there son or daughter? What are you doing? Okay, let’s go here. My plans, intentions and purpose for you are always to give you a future. Come on, let’s go forward. Come on, let’s move forward. “But, um, I made a mistake. I screwed Mt. Carmel Illinois Church up.”
I know you did. Come on, let’s move forward, Mt. Carmel Illinois Mt. Carmel Illinois Church. I know that I deserve to stay here. It was a stupid, I know. Let’s move forward. He never changes. He’s not going to change for you. He’s not going to change for me. Immutability.
You have his counsel. Does that give anybody any hope? Sometimes, Mt. Carmel Illinois Church we get far enough away from sin. Mt. Carmel Illinois Church we forget about the value of the immutability of his counsel. Mt. Carmel Illinois Church we get far enough saved.
Mt. Carmel Illinois Church we forget what it’s like to need Jesus to help us move forward. I’m not preaching about that, but that’s still a good point. The immutability of his counts.
I have to stay focused in with the immutability of his counsel. He confirmed it by an oath. Now I’ll give you what the word oath means. The word oath means this: I’m just delaying there Mt. Carmel Illinois Mt. Carmel Illinois Church.
It is a fence, a limit, or restraint. Hmm.
God gave himself a fence, a limit or restraint, a solemn promise regarding future acts or behavior. God confirmed it with an oath. Why would God use the word oath and talk about a fence, or a limit or restraint? God’s limitless. God knows no bounds.
God put himself in a fence with this oath. What is the fence? He put himself in my word, not my word, Chad, his word. He said my word, I’m limited to my word. I’m limiting myself to my oath. My oath to you is a guarantee. I will never contradict my oath.
He’s not limited to what he can do in the world, but he said, I will watch over my word to perform it. Numbers chapter 23 says, God is not a man that he should lie, nor the Son of Man that he should repair. When God gives you and me an oath, when he gives me a promise, he says, I’m fenced in around my own promise to you.
Two Immutable Things: He Will Fill Us with Hope, and He Confirms it with an Oath
It gives me some hope that God says, you know what? I’m bound to my word. I will perform my word. I will do it. He says, I’ve confirmed it by an oath that by two immutable, there’s that word again, that two immutable things.
What are the two immutable things? Number one, that God never changes. He’s the same and he’s no respecter of persons. Put that in your heart.
The two immutable things: number one that’s going to fill us with hope that I can be anchored with hope this morning is number one. Jesus is the same. God is the same for somebody else. He’s the same for me. He’s no respecter of persons. He doesn’t change what he did for Abraham.
He’ll do for me what he did for Jesus. He’ll do for me the immutability of his plans, purposes, intentions for my life. That is one thing that’s never going to change.
Number two is he confirms it with an oath. His word is his bond. He speaks the truth and he does not lie by these two immutable things. Mt. Carmel Illinois Church we can have hope.
If Mt. Carmel Illinois Church we get these two things in our heart, Mt. Carmel Illinois Mt. Carmel Illinois Church. If I settle it, that God’s plan for me is always a future and a hope.
It will cause hope to arise in me. No matter what I’m doing, no matter what I’m facing, if I will settle that in my heart, hope will arise.
God never changes and he’s no respecter of persons, but the devil tells you he won’t do it for you. He was telling you he won’t do it for you. Not now.
He might’ve earlier, but now you’ve Mt. Carmel Illinois Church went to like, you know, here’s how far you could go. God would still do something, but now you’ve Mt. Carmel Illinois Church went here, buddy. You’re all on your own. You can’t.
You’re not. He’s not going to do it for you. Know God never changes this immutability of his counsel. Get it in your head. Just say that word. Immutable, immutable, immutable. God never changes and he always honors his word.
