So take a friend and go to him at midnight and say to him, Friend, lend me three loaves for a friend of mine has come to me on his journey and I have nothing to set before him and he will answer him from within saying, do not trouble me. The door is now shut and my children are with me in bed. I cannot rise and give to you. I say to you though, he will not rise and give to him because he is his friend. What kind of friend is that? Yet? Because of his will Mt. Carmel Church he won’t give it to him because he’s his friend.
I’m not talking about an enemy. I’m talking not talking about the rude neighbor that you don’t like. I’m talking about this is your pal. This is your homie. This is your friend. This is your BFF. If he will rise and give up because it’s his friend, yet because of his persistence, he will rise and give him as many as he needs. Hold on. So this is what bold prayer looks like. This is what finding looks like. Praying boldly is praying persistently with us here at Mt. Carmel Church.
What does the word persistent mean? Perse means pressing solicitation. Urgent requests with troublesome frequency, shameless immodesty or audacity. Audacity. I don’t have much time for this. How much different would our world look like without electricity? Without recorded sound or video? How different would our world look like? Sometimes it takes a while for these things to like. All right, go ahead and hit the lights.
How different would our world look like if it wasn’t for electricity? It would look like this. This is what our world would look like. You would all have to have a candle. No electricity, no light bulbs, no, no stage lights, nothing. All right, turn the lights back on. But because one man was persistent, Thomas Edison, Thomas Edison press through to find the answer he’s looking for. Do you know this about Thomas Edison, his team logged 10,000 failed prototypes before creating the first viable light bulb. Ten thousand failed attempts. Here’s a quote that Tom said son said, he said, genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration. Mt. Carmel Church we are in need of some prayer. We need to know that some of the prayers, a little bit of perspiration. I’m not talking about trying to convince him to do. I’m talking about trying to find
persistence in prayer. Sometimes it’s just trying to find what God’s already supplied for us in our society. We have this lotto mentality that we just want things to come to us. We don’t want to work for them. We don’t want to persist. And Thomas Edison said, Hey, genius, 1% inspiration, 99% perspiration, 10,000 failed attempts, right? No, no, no. That’s not what Tommy said. Here’s what Tommy said about those 10,000 he said, I have not failed 10,000 times. I’m not even failed. Once I have succeeded in proving that those 10,000 ways will not work when I’ve eliminated the ways that will not work, I will find the way that will work.
I didn’t fail 10,000 times. I just found that that way won’t work, but if I keep going, I’m going to find it. What do we find? We find the grace to help in prayer, so how do we pray? We pray persistently. We pray until we find it. What if you haven’t got an answer in prayer? Keep fucking, keep searching. What do you do if you know you’ve lost something in your house but you say this, I know it’s here somewhere.
You keep searching you find it. Why are we giving up in prayer? Just because we haven’t found the answer yet just because we haven’t seen a breakthrough yet. Just because we’ve experienced disappointment or discouragement. We keep praying until we find the answer because we know when we find it’s not when it got there. After all, it’s already available to us. There are things that I haven’t found the answer to what we can do for you at Mt. Carmel Church.
There are questions that I have, the questions I have about my life, questions I have about why isn’t happening, why that happened. I have all kinds of questions, so what do I do? I got two options. I can do, equip praying and say, evidently God doesn’t want me to know or I can keep searching for it till I find it. I’m choosing to pray persistently. I’m choosing to press in because notice this is talking about prayer. Still. Look in verse nine so I say to you asking, it will be given to you. Seek and you will persist in prayer. You’ll find knock and it will be open to you. For everyone who asks receives and he who seeks, finds and to him and knocks, it will be open to you.
Let me say this to you in the amplified version. Verse 10 says this, for everyone who keeps on asking, persistently receives and he keeps on seeking persistently finds it to him who keeps on knocking persistently, the door will be open. Here’s what prayer is. Sum it up with this. We come to the throne of grace because we know that he has the grace to give. He’s got a grace to help and we’re going to find grace to help find a grace to help for my time of need Mt. Carmel Church.
